Back in 2016, when I made a second visit to one of the most amazing places I've ever been to - Hampi.

"While reaching in an auto rickshaw from Vapi station, Devka beach in Nani Daman still seemed to be sleeping. Except for a few women sweepers cleaning the park (previously Devka Amusement Park) situated on the beach, no one could be seen around. From what I could see as an entrance, I stepped on the black sand of the widespread beach."

"A hamlet in the Kerala backwaters, Kakkathuruthu was resting untouched by the outside world until it got featured in National Geographic’s Around the World in 24 Hours, a photo tour for the adventurous traveler who never stops. The list starts from Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park at 5:00 and ends at 4:00 in a lakeside retreat at Northern Ireland after leaving its mark at 18:00 in this secluded island."

"You’d have probably heard about (and experienced) the captivating beauty of the ruins in Hampi already, but let me state the obvious – Hampi is a Paradise, in its every sense. Standing as the reminiscent of a bygone era, Hampi is an ancient city carved out of rocks. An alluring view from the top of Matunga Hill is all you need to understand the place and what it once was."

"We deviated from Kudle beach road and took the path through a scenic grassland – which got us back to the main road soon. While some stray dogs continued to bark at Rambo, we entered a much village like path with lush greenery on both sides and it lead us to an opening to Kudle Beach. With gentle waves caressing our feet, we headed to the utmost end of that small yet calm beach. Where the beach ended, we spotted a man lying flat, adjacent to the rocks by the shore. Waves were passing over his legs, but he seemed carefree. At first, we thought it was someone sunbathing or resting after the night’s hangover, but when two dogs approached it sniffing, we realized it’s a dead body which had just washed-up!"

"During our stay at McLeod Ganj, many of our friends came visiting and for almost a week, all the rooms in Anandam were completely occupied by Malayalis that it felt more like our homeland. But by the end of March, everyone left except Archana and it was then we planned to visit the northern most state of India, Jammu and return via Rajasthan, the largest state in India. So this is Himachal Pradesh – Chronicles V.3, the final version of my Himachal Chronicles series where I’ll be briefing on how I spent the last 22 days of my vacation in and around Himachal."

"We started by 13:15 and took the pathway that lay adjacent to a canal – this is the starting point of the 4km long trek. After a 10 minute walk, we reached Olakkayam Falls, the commonly visited falls on the way to Marottichal Falls. Usually, people will come up to this point and return after taking a bath thinking that it is Marottichal Kuthu. But the fact is, the real trail starts only from here.

A few steps into the thickly grown greenery which was seen ahead, I saw something (well, it could only be a snake) swiftly crossing the path – since the path was hardly visible and as it moved within the split of a second, I couldn’t really figure out what it was. This added to the various stories (including elephant encounters) I’ve heard and that got me slightly worried about the uncertainty that awaits us at every turn as we go more into the forest."

"On the 29th of February, which happened to be the ‘leap’ in four years, I departed from a land where I have friends and foes to get to a far away land where I have no friends or foes."

Here's a short video of my trip to Himachal Pradesh - from Bengaluru to New Delhi and then, finally to McLeod Ganj. Sorry for the abrupt ending; I forgot to shoot the rest - reaching Himachal Pradesh and at our home stay by a foothill in Heeru village of McLeod Ganj.

Shot on Xiaomi Yi Action Camera and Nikon D7000 paired with a Tokina 12-28mm f4 lens.

The mind started feeling restless and I couldn't really figure out why. The only remedy I could find is to head somewhere, regardless of what it offers. So when I got back home from work for the weekend, I called up my friend with a basic plan to go somewhere in a KSRTC. And that's how, this plan of heading to Cumbummettu came into being.

"The first day was about traveling all the way from Kochi to Munnar early in the morning with Agni in his car, witnessing the true beauty of Munnar during the early hours of morning, driving to Kundala Dam and then to Top Station, getting tra-fucked in the weekend traffic while going to Suryanelli, meeting Raja – our usual jeep driver to Kolukkumalai, visiting the camping site with him where we will be staying tonight, heading to Aanayirangal Dam and spending the evening photographing the place."
