Now playing Le Parc by Tangerine Dream. Streethawk was my first introduction to Tangerine Dream, probably like most people my age. Takes me right back! Remember Jesse screaming through the streets of America, fighting bad guys. I think George Clooney was in one episode too!

Some of Tangerine Dream's finest work from their finest line up. I've always wondered why Kraftwerk get so much attention for Germany electronic music whereas these guys go relatively uncredited.

Tangerine Dream's kosmische phase is probably best served by their amazing double album Zeit, released in the UK on Virgin Records (VD2503) in 1972. At this point, the band consisted of Froese, Baumann and Franke. In my opinion, this was their strongest line-up.

Welcome to The Vinyl Review!

This site is different to other review sites. It definitely won’t be pretentious like the NME or Pitchfork. The focus of the reviews will be a mixture of the music and the overall physical product:

What’s the sleeve like?
Is there an inlay and if so what’s on it?
What’s the vinyl like?
Is it coloured or limited in numbers?
Does this vinyl issue have anything different to either a previous issue or another format?

I’m toying with the idea of giving scores for the above points but I’m not too sure how easy it will be to rate each point and whether or not it should contribute to the overall score.

Anyway, I digress. I want this site to be a little different from the norm. It probably won’t feature the usual reviews for the usual albums (or 7″s) but will give some exposure to some of the smaller bands out there that you may not be aware of. Occasionally though, I will review something from ‘the vault’, something that is a bit more familiar.

Please get in touch or leave a comment if you like what you see. Or even if you don’t. It would be boring if we all agreed on everything.

Cheers,

Brett
