Another recent testimonial.....THE VICARAGE BY THE SEA…AN OUTSTANDING CARE MODEL
June 24, 2016
My father was lost in a long-term care system that was not kind to him. We were a family searching for solutions, trying to navigate through a maze of Alzheimer’s disease while hoping to find the best care options for our Dad.
Our prayers were answered when my sister found the Vicarage by the Sea in Harpswell, Maine.
This small adult home for dementia care is warm and intimate with a hard-working, patient, well-trained staff that gives excellent, compassionate care twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
It is located in a peaceful setting surrounded by lovely gardens, green trees and the glistening waters of Casco Bay.
I found tremendous comfort knowing he is receiving excellent care and that we have indeed found the best place for him. I wish every family facing this disease could bring their loved one here when it is time to do so.
It is an outstanding model for how long-term facilities should be and I am deeply grateful for having this option for our father.

A recent testimonial...MORE GRATEFUL THAN EVER…
July 18, 2016
Mom’s stay at the Vicarage reached its first anniversary last week and, after a year, I feel more grateful than ever that she is there. She was having such a terrible time before, just managing to cope, and then periodically being thrown completely off balance, completely unable to cope for weeks at a time, while she endured nightmarish reactions to inappropriate drugs. Had I not been the one to care for her during these times, I wouldn’t have believed how they can totally undo a person, and how much care the person needs just to maintain personal safety during these times. It was very sad to see someone in good physical health put into situations that were so deleterious. But I realized that even a little bit of dementia puts a person at risk of being beyond what the standard care facility for elderly people can deal with.
The beauty of the vicarage, is that both her body and her mind are being looked after in a way that is totally professional but completely non-intrusive. The fact that care is being delivered through knowing how to look after people with dementia, and by providing a healthy, loving, safe and comfortable living situation has been ideal for my mother. As a part of the familiar and supportive group of people she lives with (staff and residents), she feels secure, at home and, she can be herself. The importance of being oneself when reaching the end of one’s life, cannot be underestimated – it seems to open doors to the past, to family members, to understanding the present and to knowing how the future will unfold. The Vicarage has been great for my mother and, the fact that she can stay there to the end of her life, is a hugely important to her family.
Thank you for providing the care for my mother that she needs, and could not receive anywhere else.
