Does Title VII apply to gay workers?
Check out this article about the question of whether or not Title VII of the Civil Rights Act protects employees from discrimination on the basis of their sexual orientation. The EEOC and the Department of Justice, both of which are responsible for enforcing Title VII, are split on the issue. The EEOC argues that Title VII applies to sexual orientation whereas the DOJ contends that it does not. The issue has resulted in a split in the federal appellate court system as well.

The court ruled that religious liberty cannot be used as a justification for discriminating against transgender employees or for demanding that employees conform to gender stereotypes. While the Sixth Circuit only covers four states, its ruling is expected to be influential throughout the country.
