New federal funding will help low-income elderly persons in West Virginia supplement their diets with nutritious USDA foods.

U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin announced the funding on Friday, saying 'with more than 23 percent of West Virginia seniors living below the poverty level, I am glad that our state is receiving this funding.'

Kanawha County schools will expand a successful math program designed for struggling students to all 13 of its public middle schools.

Kanawha County’s school board voted unanimously Tuesday to spend about $311,000 to expand to all 13 of its public middle schools a math program for struggling students that school system officials say has shown success at Stonewall Jackson Middle in Charleston.

No personal information or documents were accessed, but the hack left internal data encrypted and inaccessible to staff at the board office.

Thanks to changes to the FAFSA application process, early student financial aid packages are being offered by several West Virginia colleges.

Several colleges in West Virginia already have been able to tell thousands of students the amount of financial aid they can receive to pay for school, three months before the schools normally would have been able to.
