If you can find somewhere else to live, then do it. We loved the place when we saw it and had a great time initially. The walls are paper thin so you can hear everything in your neighbor's unit and stairwells. Our initial neighbors were amazing. Very friendly, respectful of each other, and pleasant to talk to. Then all of a sudden they started letting just anybody move into the apartments. People yelling, children running in and out till the wee hours of the day, blasting stereos, and worst of all the horrendous food smells. Our place smelled so bad from our downstairs neighbors who would let out a pressure cooker full of curry every day. Plus they had about 8 people (2 families) living in a two bedroom apartment. We had to get out due to unforeseen medical issues that my wife had. That was another fiasco trying to get them to terminate our lease. The manager in the leasing office was not a very nice person and was very condescending. He should be fired for the way that he spoke to me and was not understanding at all about my wife's very serious medical condition. They do not negotiate about ANYTHING. There are a few people in the leasing office who do a TREMENDOUS job, specifically Claudia. She is a gem and I hope that she finds some place great to work where they have a better reputation. The pools and gyms are nice, however when you go there during the warm weather be prepared to be surrounded by people who just don't care about the rules. They used to have a pool attendant that would watch over the place to make sure everyone had an enjoyable time. Now people smoke, drink, listen to annoying music, and curse in front of small children who are also at the pool. If you're really into any of this and like annoying neighbors and paying ridiculously high rent then it's certainly the place for you. If not, look elsewhere, you'll be glad you did.

RENTERS BEWARE! 'The Lakes' is run by incompetent crooks. My gf lived here for a year, paid her rent on time, and notified management a full month in advance that she would not be renewing her lease. However, in the very fine print of her agreement, there is a stipulation that states you need to notify management 60 days prior to moving out. End all be all, this place will try and nickel and dime you for all your worth. **Also, packages were stolen regularly, walls are paper thin, and they allow families of 6+ people rent out single bedroom units. These people do not care about you or your well being, they only want your $$$.

I have lived in the Lakes of Schaumburg for a little under a year and am very happy. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. I've gone into the office multiple times since moving in with various questions and they have always been more than willing to take the time to assist me. The apartments are very clean and well maintained. The only time I've need a repair on an appliance, I was incredibly pleased w/ the quick service. It's a very safe area and truly great place to live.

The apartments are well maintained with appliances and furnishing in pretty good condition. The walls are paper thin. The best part is that the washer and dryer are inside the apartment. The lease breakage conditions are decent enough. The only thing I miss is an indoor pool due to the weather conditions in Chicagloland.

Beware! Management is very poor and residents are not a priority. They make promises they don't keep especially regarding maintenance requests. Windows leak, black mold is in the bathrooms, fitness center always has broken equipment and the pools are filled with duck droppings. Expect rent to increase $125+ per month with renewal and they do not negotiate.

I rented this apartment sight unseen. I was moving back to Schaumburg from Denver so I was familiar with Schaumburg. I found the apt online, called Claudia, applied over the phone. I moved on Sat from Denver and arrived Sunday, went into the oofice, signed my lease and moved everything in by Sunday evening. Thanks Claudia! I recently moved out- I had a 6 mo lease and loved every minute! I was on the second floor and I could hear my upstairs neighbor walk-the floors would creak (he was a larger man). But the building was really really quiet. Never heard neighbors talking through the walls. The office staff...I wish I could take them with me to my new apt! Especially Claudia. Unfortunately, I had to move for my job out of state. Utility bills were really low-gas was at most $80 in the winter and $50 for warm weather. Electric was never over $20. Great price for location and apt features. Highly recommend!!
