Its been said many times you don't know what you have until it's gone. Unfortunately, about a month ago, the Gym closed. I never fully appreciated it until I started looking for other gyms, and found none of them that matched the Gym at Elkins Park. I joined the Gym after my last gym closed. My main reason for joining it initially was because it was very close to the train station. I would take the train back from work and the Gym was 5 minutes away. Every time I worked out in the morning, there was someone cleaning the gym. Vacuuming and wiping down every piece of equipment, they made sure the gym was spotless from top to bottom. They had every piece of equipment you could want. For dumbell workouts, they had multiple benches, incline benches, and chairs. They had loads of free weights everywhere, both on the sides of the equipment and on weight trees throughout the gym. If you needed a barbell of any weight, you didn't have to walk more than five feet to get it, if that. The equipment was also spread out throughout the gym. You never felt like someone was on top of you when you were working out. I paid $64.00 a month, and it was well worth it. Most gyms I have visited since Elkins Park Gym closed cost between $10.00 and $20.00 a month. Although Elkins Park Gym cost more, I liked the fact it was never crowded. I was a member of the gym for almost 2 years and I rarely had to wait for equipment. If I did, there were at least two or three other pieces of equipment I could use that worked the same area I wanted. The gyms I have looked at don't have the equipment that Elkins Park had, some of them are filthy, some of them have the equipment in such a small area you feel like someone is on top of you while you are working out. Some of them are so crowded I feel like they need to make an appointment or get a ticket to use equipment. I am also not the most personable person, but for those that are, every time I walked into the Gym and every time I left, someone behind the desk said hi or bye to me. I am extremely sorry that the Gym is no longer around. No matter which gym I end up joining, it will not come anywhere close to the overall experience I had at the Gym.

Love everything about this gym. The Trainers, Staff, and Owners are wonderful. I am excited to go and work out and I feel great afterwards all while being challenged. The personal trainers are all amazing and wonderful. Tim is awesome as a personal trainer and pushes me to my limits ever single time I workout with him! Boot Camp Classes and XTC are created and exhibited by the trainers at the gym and are fun, unique and challenging at the same time. The trainers are constantly developing new workouts to keep things interesting. I highly recommend this Gym to any and all people of any fitness level.

XTC is an amazing change to anyone's fitness program. It makes me push myself harder and THAT is a good thing. I have done three XTC sessions so far along with Boot Camp classes & already I feel a change in my body strength. I recommend this program to anyone that wants to step up their work out. Awesome! :o)

My experience was horrible. I also bought a groupon for the boot camp only to find out that i was almost never able to get into a class. Also the owner of the place is a total biach and does not know how to treat costumers. and in order to even get in the class, they take a pic of you which they look up in the computer every time you come in, then you have to sign in and then they give you a card which then you have to take with you to the class which is only 10 steps away and even with all that you still need a punching card where they make a hole every time to come in and if you lose the punching card you they won’t let you in the class unless you pay $5, which they don't tell you about anywhere. Do not waste your money on this.

We appreciate your comments but you should keep it civil and refrain from using vulgarity, lest you lose credibility. We may not know how to "treat costumers", but we certainly know how to treat customers. You must be a fitness industry expert to comment on our sign-in procedures for non-members. The Gym has been using these same procedures successfully for 18 years (not just for Groupon) with rare complaints. By the way, from our Front Desk to the Training Center, you must pass through two sets of double doors and walk 180 feet (seventy-two steps according to (http://www.TheWalkingSite.com). Unless you happen to be the Green Giant, you won't make it in "10 steps". Isn't it odd the only two less than very good or excellent Google reviews are NOT from our Members, but from two disgruntled Grouponers that do not adhere to the merchant's specific instruction not to try to attend the most popular 6:00 pm classes that fill up quickly. We provide a list of 16 other classes that Grouponers are very likely to gain a spot. ALL Groupon offers (not just ours) are "subject to availability". It is so commonly accepted that Groupon infrequently adds that phrase. The vast majority of Grouponers fully understand and appreciates that if you are paying $2.50 (85% discount) for a class when a full paying Member is paying up to $16.41, then a sometimes inconvenience is possible and even likely. Since you attended five classes, we will send you a refund of $36.75.

Top notch Staff, Equipment and Facility! The Boot Camp and Training for Warriors classes are fantastic. I've been working out there for over a year now and the classes have not gotten routine or boring. All of the trainers are very knowledgeable and really easy to talk to if you have any questions. The staff there is always super friendly and greet you by name! I would highly recommend The Gym to anyone who is looking for a friendly, clean and motivating place to workout!

I have wanted for years to engage in a regular exercise program but starting was hard, given life's many responsibilities. I knew I needed to lose weight, improve my stamina and my health. After enrolling, I quickly knew I had finally made the right choice. Boot Camps are intense workouts and in just one early morning hour, I have completed a full body strength and cardio workout. I can now get on with the rest of my busy day. Since starting Boot Camp, I have gotten stronger, clothes fit better, decreased my appetite for sweets and I am now much more conscious how my body moves. With such great results in such a short time, I am committed and excited to further improve. I have encouraged all my friends to join the Boot Camp and told them how great it is and how the entire Staff is so helpful.

Whether you are male or female, in shape or out of shape, a fitness junkie or intimidated by a 5 lb dumbbell (like me!), you will not regret joining The Gym at Elkins Park. I've tried other gyms, but I was looking for a place where I could learn, get a good workout, and challenge myself; and this gym met my expectations and more. These are some of the best trainers I've ever encountered; you will LEARN a lot both about the reasons behind what you are doing, and how to challenge yourself and push yourself safely, no matter what your starting level, These guys are teachers too, not just trainers. The training programs, specifically boot camp and the new apex Xtreme fitness are the craziest, most fun and most challenging workouts I've ever done. They make a point of being knowledgeable about the most up to date exercise science, and implementing this into each of these programs. I've been taking boot camp classes for over 6 months, but I'm still challenged; I've gained muscle, which is awesome. But, more importantly, I gained confidence in myself and what I can do. And, so will you. There is a saying on the wall downstairs in the gym, and it says, "Strong is the new sexy." That is what The Gym at Elkins Park is about....walking with you while you become a strong, confident person, no matter what your size or ability level. And by the way, if you are a fitness junkie already, don't be fooled. They don't let you off the hook....you'll be pushed to reach even higher.

A gym full of equipment can be a very intimidating place. The Gym has a large variety of equipment, and when I started, I had no idea how to use hardly any of it! During my initial weeks at The Gym, they have a great program where not only was I given a full Body Composition Analysis to see exactly my current physical condition, I was also provided with two free Personal Training sessions and a nutritional consultation. After Mike took me through the training and nutrition consultation, I realize I needed more, if I was serious about getting in shape. After working with Mike, who provided the guidance for me to properly use the equipment, but more importantly, Mike has shown me that I am much more capable of improving my fitness level beyond that I had ever dreamed possible! I always had the fear of hurting myself, if I began to seriously exercise, but with Mike's guidance all my fears have vanished! I have encouraged all of my friends to work with my favorite trainer, Mike, to maximize the benefits of exercise, especially when starting out for the first time!
