Until further notice, I will not post on my socnets. My wife, Edith, has become ill, and I need to spend all of my spare time helping her get well.

I finished my 3-part report on the Colt Single Action Army BB gun. But, now there's a 4th part. Shooting lead pellets instead of steel BBs. WOW! Look at these targets:

Yesterday, we updated a rule for the big bore match at the 2015 Texas Airgun Show. Today, we've updated another rule. All changes are now written in bold red so you can more easily spot them. The change in today's rule is in third paragraph under rule 4:

"The remainder of the match will be shot at metal silhouette targets with 6-inch or 8-inch kill zones. Varmint class targets have 6" kill zones. Big game class targets have 8" kill zones. To score points, the kill zones must be hit so the kill zone paddle is visibly moved. Hitting the silhouettes but not the kill zone paddles will not score points. A murmur (kill zone paddle moves slightly when the silhouette body is hit) shall not score any points. The spotter shall have final authority for this call."

See all the big bore match rules here (where the bold red print makes it easier to see specific changes:

Special announcement: The big bore match held at the 2015 Texas Airgun Show has had this addition to the rules: "Guns cannot be shared with other shooters. Since hunters bring their own guns and do not share them, no sharing is allowed in the match. The big bore match is a hunting simulation."

This morning, we're conducting a test at the site of the LASSO big bore match, which will be held at the 2015 Texas Airgun Show on 8/29. We'll be shooting at the targets to make sure they function perfectly, assigning duties to scorers and match officials, and verifying that nothing else has been overlooked. We hope there will be a big turnout for the match, so we're making sure it'll go off without a hitch.

"For Daisy Collectors! New book reveals detailed past of America's oldest airgun maker"
Gary Garber wrote a fantastic reference book, "An Encyclopedia of Daisy Plymouth Guns." If you're interested in the cast-iron Daisy guns, this book should be in your library. Even if you're not interested in these vintage guns, the history of the Daisy company is fascinating and worth reading. This airgun column originally appeared in Shotgun News in 2007:
