Just finished this shadow box privacy fence with arch cuts. I want to take a moment and thank my good friend and fellow fence installer Philip for helping me with this project and all the others he has given me a hand with over the past couple of years. Philip and I met back in my paramedic days and have remained good friends ever since. He has recently started his own business in Lexington called , The Fence Medic. If you have family or friends in the Lexington area needing a fence installed or repaired be sure to have them check out The Fence Medic. Thanks Philip!

Wisdom in a tea bag! This was the message I received Sunday morning as I was beginning to work on a woodworking project, but I think it's great advice for everyday of the week. Happy Monday!

Portable sawmill! The addition of this piece of equipment opens up many possibilities for the woodworking side of my operations. The test log here is cedar, of which I've been allowing most of it to dry while I determine what kind of project I will build with it. Stayed tuned to see what comes next!

Before and after pics of deck/fence combo. The fence portion runs parallel to the artificial turf that was installed to create a mini-soccer field for the kids. The front of the deck joins the turf and a small bench was created to run the length of the deck to allow for seating. To salvage the existing tree, I framed around it. The surround of the deck is taller on two sides to provide a little privacy.

Sneak peek of a fence/deck combo! I generally don't accept requests for deck projects, but when approached by the client with their ideas on a horizontal fence and then a possible deck the project seemed too interesting to turn down. It was certainly a challenge and at times I thought I'd taken on more than I could handle, but having another happy client enjoy their outdoor space even more with what I created for them makes it all worth while. Check back Monday for the before photos as well as more photos of the deck and fence.

Not your standard picket fence! The client approached me with a design idea and wanted to know if I could create it. These pictures show the completed project. The framing is laid out slightly different to accommodate the cap board that creates flowing horizontal lines that compliment nicely with the surrounding landscape.

Have an idea for a wood fence? Let's talk!

The trim elements on this fence make all the difference giving it a very different look over a standard privacy fence. These style of fences may take longer and cost more for me to build, but the end result is a beautiful fence that reflects the unique style desired by the client. What can I help you create?

Before and after pictures are always fun to look at whether it's for indoor or outdoor projects. The fence replacement shown here is no different. The original fence was 25+ years old and beginning to show its age. It was also allowing two small dogs to escape from the wide spacing. The new fence corrected the spacing issue and added a little something extra with the scallop cuts.

I built this little rocking chair over the winter. Built with cedar, it has provided me a comfortable place to enjoy a book or a hot cup of tea, usually both. It is also the first project to come out of the woodworking shop I built over the winter.

Another example of a shadow box style fence with scallop tops. There are more before and after pictures to come of this project, but I really liked how the morning sun was hitting the cedar pickets early Friday morning and thought I would share. Happy Monday!
