While it is not uncommon for employers to give #assessmenttests to potential job candidates, one U.S. company has caught the eye of the media for its unusual vetting tool. A public relations firm in Hilliard Mills, Connecticut, created the controversial #snowflaketest as a means of weeding out candidates who don’t fit the company’s culture – specifically, “overly sensitive, liberal candidates that are too easily offended.”

Recently, American fashion designers and former child actresses Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have moved to settle a #lawsuit brought by a former #intern. Shahista Lalani filed suit against the the sisters, known collectively as the #Olsentwins, in New York Supreme Court, alleging that she worked 50-hour weeks without pay or college credit.

A proposed class action discrimination #lawsuit was recently filed against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) by the company’s former diversity manager. The suit alleges that FCA’s employee evaluation process impedes the success of African-American employees at a disproportionate rate, having the potential to affect many African-American managers who are subject to an evaluation process.

It was recently reported that the Department of Justice is proposing a new rule to implement changes to the Immigration and Nationality Act, which includes how certain terms would be defined in regards to immigration-related #employmentpractices.

As of December 1, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (#OSHA) will begin enforcing the injury and illness record-keeping rule. Under this rule, companies with more than 250 employees in covered industries will be required to submit annual injury and illness forms electronically.

The National Cancer Center Institute (#NCCI) has stated that an estimated 1,685,210 new cases of #cancer will be diagnosed in the U.S. this year. The Americans with Disabilities Act (#ADA) prohibits discrimination against employees with a qualifying disability, which includes protections for employees that have cancer.

The #NYS Department of Labor has ruled that two former #Uber drivers were considered employees at the time they were working for the ride-sharing company and, therefore, were eligible to receive unemployment insurance benefits. This decision is the first of its kind regarding for-hire drivers in New York.
