CAR ACCIDENTS: MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISIONS WITH LIVESTOCK

California produces an astonishing amount of the food that is consumed in the United States and abroad, accounting for approximately 50% of the fruit, nuts and vegetables grown in the country, as well as 20% of the milk and a large amount of animal protein.

This does wonders for our economy and helps keep food prices low for the whole country, but it puts many of us Californians at risk for dangerous interactions with these animals while out on our roads and highways.

The risk is greater for those in rural areas, but the problem is spreading as our cities encroach on our agricultural lands and this problem will continue to affect more drivers every year.

CAR ACCIDENTS: TIRES AS ACCIDENT CAUSATION

There are many causes of car accidents and as the population of California steadily increases, the number of car accidents is sure to follow. Most car accidents are preventable and it’s important for drivers to take every measure possible to ensure everyone’s safety, and this includes maintaining their car tires.

Many people are unaware that the tires on their vehicle can play an important role in preventing an accident from happening. However, the opposite is also true, and improperly maintained tires can prove disastrous.

California has a mandatory duty of care law for all drivers on the road. Every motorist is responsible for driving with care and caution for other motorists on the road – including performing safe U-turns. The driver making a U-turn does not hold the legal right of way. So if he or she fails to yield as required, a serious accident can occur.

Accidents are generally divided into three categories: head-on, side-impact and rear-end. All three categories can result in a whiplash effect that sends an occupants head traveling in a different direction than the rest of their body. The end result is usually neck or back injuries that can range from mild sprains and bruises to herniated disks, fractured vertebrae and even spinal cord damage.

Distracted driving is any activity that could divert a person’s attention away from the primary task of driving. Distractions that take a motorist’s attention off driving can make a driver miss critical events, objects and cues the could all potentially lead to a crash. They put not only themselves at risk, but everyone else on the road.

DANGERS OF IMPROPER TRUCK MAINTENANCE

Since most truck accidents occur in rural areas, it makes sense that California is one of the top states for truck accidents every year. An accident involving a semi-truck has the potential to cause much more damage than in collisions with everyday sedans.

Impacts by trucks are extremely forceful and its design is very different from that of cars, resulting in different parts colliding. For example, when two cars collide, that often means that bumpers and fenders are connecting. In the case of a collision between a car and a truck, the truck’s fender may be in line with the car’s windows, leading to more severe and dangerous damage

DEADLY VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

There are a lot of cars on the California roads and as the population increases, so do car accidents. In fact, in 2007 alone, 4,000 people died on California roads and highways. The grieving process alone for losing a loved one in an automobile accident is difficult alone but trying to cope with the thought that the accident was caused by someone else’s negligence is even more devastating.

If you or someone you know lost a loved one due to the irresponsibility of someone else, you could potentially pursue a wrongful death claim. Immediately seek advice and consultation from an experienced accident lawyer.

Automotive Products Liability

The world we live in today has been created by manufacturing tools and creating processes that make our lives easier and more efficient, and the automobile has completely revolutionized the way we live our lives. We have come a long way from the invention of the automobile, and that has been done over years of engineering systems and testing their safety and efficiency.

This process is still going on today and although we have come a long way, there are still products being manufactured that have inherent safety issues and design flaws.

PREMISES LIABILITY: DAYCARE NEGLIGENCE

It is a nightmare situation that happens all too often; a child incurs an injury while under the care of a trusted childcare facility. Daycare staff must go through rigorous background checks and first aid training. Even a small mistake can have dire consequences- just a few years ago a young child died after ingesting a pushpin at a daycare facility.

The child was permitted to use the restroom without supervision and discovered and swallowed a pushpin in this time. These types of cases are horrific and devastating, especially when it’s entirely preventable.
