#ProfileThursdays
John Mattick is an Australian Geneticist and professor of molecular biology. He is most known for discovering that most of the human genome that was previously considered junk is actually functional and produces a regulatory network of RNA that controls human development. This won him the Chen Award for academic achievement in human genetic research.
Professor Mattick completed his studies at the University of Sydney then undertook postdoctoral training in Houston. Interestingly, in the spirit of science, he often spent sabbaticals at the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford and Cologne.
