#FoodForThought: Bethesda Game Studios chose to remove skills altogether and replace them with character progression based on your SPECIAL and perk choices (perk trees are said to total hundreds of options).
What is your opinion? On one hand, this seems to be a break with the pen-and-paper traditions of the Fallout series, limiting character expression.
On the other, Bethesda may simply be embracing the strengths of the gaming medium and getting rid of the flaws. Random failures as a result of a skill check lead to reloads, as games rarely embrace the resulting fail state - failure is quite literally not an option.
What do you think? Good? Bad? Somewhere in between?
