Cosmetic Dentistry and Dental Bonding

In cosmetic dentistry, dental bonding is also known as composite or tooth bonding. This is the process that fixes cosmetic and structural imperfections in the teeth. While dentists call them direct composite veneers, many simply refer to them generically as “dental bonding.”

Dental bonding is used to repair cracked, chipped, and discolored teeth including the replacement of silver fillings. It can also repair misaligned teeth, thereby giving the patient a straighter and more uniform smile.

This material can also be directly applied and sculpted to the surfaces of teeth that are prominently displayed during a smile. (This is termed as a minimally invasive smile makeover.)

The first part is the material selection process. This is where the cosmetic dentist chooses the right tone of composite resin (white or natural-looking dental bonding materials) to match the patient’s own natural shade of teeth.

The start of the bonding process is when the dentist uses a rubber dam to isolate the tooth (or teeth). This is to prevent moisture interference on the tooth. Depending on the extent of the treatment, there might be a need for anesthetic injections.

Next, the dentist roughens the existing tooth for the resin to adhere properly. He will then apply a gentle phosphoric acid solution on the tooth’s surface (which does not hurt) and removes it after 15 seconds.

The resin is then carefully applied to the tooth, is shaped and smoothed to achieve the desired look.

The formed resin material is then hardened with the aid of a high intensity light. Once it is of correct hardness, the bonded tooth is then buffed and polished to match the appearance and shaped of the surrounding teeth.

Because a dental plan had already been prepared by the dentist after the initial visit, the direct composite bonding procedure usually is completed in one dental visit. Of course, this will still depend on the extent of the needed tooth repair.

Even if the treatment is two or more visits, the results can be quite pleasing.

There are several benefits for patients in the tooth bonding process. It is quick, affordable, virtually painless, and the result can last long.

Dental bonding is a good alternative to the more extensive (and expensive) treatment with porcelain veneers, bridges and crowns.

The composite resin used in the cosmetic bonding process is very flexible. It expands and contracts with the natural tooth, thereby preventing cracks and tooth loss.

Cosmetic dentistry financing has always been a primary concern with many patients. For tooth bonding, the cost varies according to the number of teeth repaired. Sometimes, the cost varies depending on the areas where the dental procedure is preformed.

Insurance carriers usually cover tooth bonding, especially if it is done for structural reasons. Likewise, many cosmetic dentists have financing plans available for their patients.

Dental procedures like tooth bonding are affordable to patients of all financial backgrounds. The way that dental bonding work on your teeth (alignment, whitening, and overall improvement of appearance) is a good reason to pay for the cosmetic dentistry cost.

The Options A Cosmetic Dentist Offers For Smile Enhancing Treatments in North Naples, Florida

A cosmetic dentist provides services to improve the way a smile looks. This type of treatment can be one of the best ways to help you feel better about your smile, yet many people do not realize just how easy it can be to get this type of care. You do not need to spend a fortune to enhance your smile. Once you find a dental care provider that specializes in cosmetic dental care, you’ll be able to choose from an assortment of services to enhance the way your smile looks.

Oral Health Care First

The first step is not to work directly with a cosmetic dentist on improving your smile, but rather to improve your oral health. One of the best reasons to visit a dentist that offers both oral health and cosmetic procedures is that he or she can do both sometimes on the same visit. Gum disease, tartar buildup, cavities and other types of conditions need treatment before any type of smile-enhancement can take place. Once this is complete, discuss the range of options available to you for improving your smile’s appearance.

Dental Options

One thing you will notice when you visit your dentist is their willingness to work within your needs and budget. What would you like to do to see significant improvement in the way your teeth look? If they are discolored from stains or yellowed from plaque buildup, whitening products can work well even after a dental cleaning. For those who have chipped teeth, the use of implants can provide a long-term, permanent solution for improving that concern. Perhaps your teeth are oddly shaped or just do not look good to you. The use of veneers, which cover them up, may be a good option.

There are various treatment options for those who want to see significant improvement in the way their teeth look. Yet, it is up to you and your dental care provider to determine which methods are ultimately the best choice overall. Some do require more than one visit to the office, though. For example, if you are ready to get rid of tan overbite and want to use Invisalign to do it, you’ll need to come in for treatments once every two to four weeks.

The end result of the hard work you put into getting your teeth looking good is well worth it. Find out how a cosmetic dentist in North Naples can help to transform your smile into exactly what you were hoping it could be. Talk about the options available and the cutting-edge technology that can make the process easier than ever. For most people, going to the dentist for these needs has never been easier to do.

An Introduction to Dental Implant Procedures

Dental implant procedure involve placing a titanium implant into the jaw and attaching a ceramic crown once the jaw bone has fused to the implant, securing it in place.

The methods of achieving this are varied, according to the condition of the implant site. The fastest procedure is done in a single day and can be performed if a tooth is replaced in a healthy gum over good bone. The most complex dental implant procedures involve grafting or growing new bone and can take six months or more.

If a tooth is broken or is decayed and needs to be removed, as long as the surrounding gum is not damaged, the replacement may be installed on the same day as the damaged tooth is extracted. It will require a temporary crown which can be replaced with a permanent crown 3-6 months later, once the bone fusion has taken place. Care should be taken with these implants and the patient might be advised to avoid certain foods for the duration of the healing process.

An ‘ordinary’ implant takes place in stages. At the first treatment, the implant is installed into the jawbone and left to fuse for 3-6 months. After this time, a post, called an abutment, is placed in the implant. Casts are then taken of the teeth and a crown made to match the existing teeth which is cemented onto the abutment.

The most complicated dental implant procedure occurs if the bone structure is not strong enough to take an implant, or if there simply isn’t enough bone. It is more common not have enough bone in the upper jaw, below the sinuses. In these cases a bone graft may be required, or bone can be stimulated to grow. This adds considerable time to the dental implant procedure since the bone must be allowed to heal before making the implant.

If the bone structure is not suitable, another option is the subperiosteal dental implant procedure, where a custom fit plate is made to sit between the jawbone and the gum. Measurements may be taken by CAT scan or by exposing the jawbone and taking a cast.

A consultation with your Naples dentist will tell you which is the right dental implant procedure for you.

Dental Care Tips For The Entire Family

Many people feel ashamed of their smile because of poor hygiene. People often consider dental care to be a pain. Your smile can be perfect and healthy if you spend a little time on dental hygiene everyday. Keep reading to learn more about good dental care.

Try different sources to look for a dentist who is within your budget. If you’re not insured, a local general dentist can be an affordable option. You should not let you finances get in the way of your dental hygiene if you want to maintain good oral health.

If you are fearful of your planned dental procedure, set up a signal to stop so that your dentist will know right away if you need to take a break. Dental work will be less intimidating if you know it can be stopped anytime. Most of the time, these signals won’t be necessary; however, knowing that these signals are available can do wonders in helping you relax during your session.

Cavities are caused when your enamel weakens. Bacteria feeds on tooth surfaces, resulting in cavities. Having your teeth cleaned by your dentist twice a year greatly reduces your risk of getting cavities. During your visit, you dentist will look for any newly formed cavities.

Make an appointment with a dentist at least once yearly. Regular checkups and cleanings can have a major impact on the health of your teeth and gums. Early detection of dental problems always reduces the cost of expensive treatments later. You may also prevent small problems from developing into major issues.

If you frequently have a dry mouth or bad breath, prescription medications could be the culprit. Without enough saliva, you increase the risk of cavities. You should talk to your doctor about your dry mouth and ask about side effects of your medication. In most cases you can try a different medicine that does not have this side effect. If it is determined that your medication is not to blame, then your doctor can prescribe you a medication to treat dry mouth.

Visit your dentist every six months or whenever you dentist feels as though you should visit. Good dental care can prevent diseases from occurring. Additionally, frequent visits will make you more comfortable with your dentist.

Go see your dentist regularly to have your teeth cleaned and inspected. Neglecting your teeth can cause significant damage in the future. Regular checkups allow you to have a healthy, clean mouth that is free from disease, discomfort and distress.

ooth Restoration In Cosmetic Dentistry

Losing the freedom to smile the way you want to because of a missing or chipped tooth is not the best way to go through life. Fortunately, cosmetic dentists can rescue you from a lifetime of being self-conscious with your smile.

There are several ways to restore damaged or missing teeth. Some look natural and you can not tell the difference between the real tooth and fake tooth. New technology has made it so that there are several ways to fix, repair, mend and restore teeth, with each one tailor-fitted to the damage.

Crowns and Tooth Cracks

Dental crowns are the latest ways of fixing teeth cracks. Cracked teeth are usually caused by tooth decay, teeth grinding, and sometimes by accidents. The crowns are fitted right on top of each damaged tooth to cover the crack and hold the tooth together. Crowns can be used on almost any tooth. They are custom-designed and are seldom noticed.

Inlays and Tooth Decay

Inlays are very stable restorative treatments on delicate and decaying teeth. They are usually used to repair decayed front teeth which are very visible when people smile or simply talk. Inlays are bonded to the affected tooth (or teeth) to fill out the decayed areas and reduce any other structural damage in the tooth caused by the decay.

Bonding and Stained Teeth

Sometimes, stains on teeth do not respond well to teeth whitening treatments and brushing. The next alternative is bonding treatment that can brighten up the smile. Dental bonding is a natural tooth-colored composite used to fill over the damaged natural tooth to make it appear naturally smooth again.

Bonding is also used to fill teeth cracks, stains and hide chipped teeth. It is sculpted to fit the tooth perfectly while covering up the flaw. Direct bonding is regularly used as an alternative to more extensive “smile makeover” procedures like veneers and crowns.

Veneers and Uneven Teeth

As a rule, dental veneers are usually used in unevenly spaced teeth or those with large gaps between their teeth. They are made with porcelain or composite resin and designed to cover the whole tooth.

They help in covering up cracks, discolorations and fill out any big gaps between teeth. Veneers protect the surface of the damaged tooth and make dental surgery unnecessary. Presently, veneers are typically more costly than dental bonding but they can give you a complete smile makeover.

Dental Implants and Missing Teeth

A dental implant is a replacement for your lost natural tooth. This is directly inserted into the gum structure, and is sometimes used as a dental bridge support. Implants are selected and designed to look like your own natural teeth. They also have the extra benefit of reducing jawbone loss.

The technology and techniques used in cosmetic dentistry are still evolving, making the procedures less invasive, less painful, and less costly.

A Guide to Dental Health

You can supplement your dental care with the use of products like mouthwash or advanced mouth care systems. Keep in mind that the lack of adequate dental care practices can result in cavities and gum disease.

You should use a toothbrush with softer bristles to protect your gums. Some people, however, prefer power brush systems that help break up plaque and bacteria in your mouth. It takes more than brushing to keep your teeth in good health. Other steps need to be taken to ensure that people do not lose their teeth as they age.

You should understand your own oral health needs. Your oral health depends on your diet, the type and amount of saliva in your mouth, your overall health and your oral hygiene routine. Try to follow a daily routine in consultation with your dentist.

Fluoride strengthens developing teeth in kids and prevents decay in adults so toothpaste and mouthwash containing fluoride should be used. You should brush at least twice a day, if possible three times or after every meal. You should also floss a minimum of twice a day. Brushing and flossing will remove plaque, a complex mass of bacteria that constantly forms on your teeth.

Do You Need Dental Implants?

Dental implants are an artificial tooth root that a dentist places into the jaw to hold the replacement tooth or bridge. This is an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. Dental implants are actually more “tooth saving” than traditional bridge work, since implants do not relay on neighboring teeth for support.

This advanced cosmetic dentistry procedure provides a natural-look and natural-feel teeth. You may forget that you ever lost a tooth. Your confidence about your teeth affects how you feel about yourself both professionally and personally. You might hide your teeth because of spacing, missing tooth or your dentures don’t fit properly. Dental implants can last years by properly caring and maintaining them. The procedure can be done on one or more teeth without affecting bordering teeth. It supports a bridge and eliminates the need for removal partial dentures. It also provides support for a denture, making it more secure and comfortable to you.

The ideal dental implants candidate  is someone who has good oral health and enough bone in their jaw that is needed to help support the implant. Those who have healthy gum tissues and are free from periodontal disease are the best candidate for dental implants. Dental implants are made up of titanium and metal fixtures that are placed within the jawbone with great precision. They provide a highly biocompatible surface, which enables bone to completely fill in and provide long-term stability.

This procedure is a team effort between you and your dentist. Your dentist will communicate with you regarding how your dental implants and where your implants should be placed. Dental implants are intimately connected with the gum tissues and underlying bone in the mouth.

Once the implants are in place, they also require the same care as you would give to natural teeth. In order to make to keep your implant clean and plaque-free, brushing and flossing still apply. After treatment your dentist will work closely with you to develop the best care plan for you. Periodic follow-up visits will be scheduled to monitor your implant, teeth and gums to make sure that they are healthy. Recovery from the dental implant procedures depends on a number of factors, one of which includes the various procedures required to complete your treatment. However, it is generally recognized that once an impact has been placed, maintaining diligent oral hygiene habits required to ensure proper fusing of the implant and bone structure. If cared properly, on implant restoration can remain in place for more than forty years.

Teeth Whitening in North Naples, Florida

Out of all the dental procedures in cosmetic dentistry being performed, teeth whitening ranks the highest. Whatever the reason, patients have been known to regain their confidence and self-esteem right after the whitening process.

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is simply a process that eliminates discoloration and stains on the teeth. The procedure also brightens the natural pigmentation of the teeth. The nature of the stains as well as the severity of the discoloration determines the degree of improvement after the treatment.

When your teeth become brown or yellow due to coffee, tea or smoking, stains will generally lighten four to five shades. Gray teeth caused by natural pigmentation or use of antibiotics will lighten two to three shades. Whatever the outcome, your teeth are noticeably brighter after teeth whitening. While there may be a number of over-the-counter teeth whiteners, only a dental professional can recommend the most effective teeth whiteners.

What are the techniques?

Today, there are two effective whitening techniques available – the in-office laser teeth whitening and at-home teeth whitening with custom-fit trays. These two techniques should be done under your dentist’s supervision to ensure safety.

Laser teeth whitening

The In-office teeth whitening is done with bleaching gel and laser light. This is a good method for teeth whitening for sensitive teeth and this process should be closely monitored by a North Naples cosmetic dentist. The process begins when the teeth are carefully isolated from the lips and gums. Next, a bleaching gel is applied to the teeth. A laser is used with the gel in order to amplify the teeth whitening process.

Are there teeth whitening methods that can be done at home?

For at-home teeth whitening, your North Naples cosmetic dentist can take imprints of your teeth and then make custom-fitted trays for your use to complete your teeth whitening process. There are also a number of teeth bleaching kits available over the counter at drugstores. If instructions are followed to the letter, most of them are safe by general standards.

Whitening systems

Teeth whitening systems use in-office applications of gel to the teeth. Next, light is applied in order to activate the gel.

There are also a number of teeth whitening systems in the market including a variety of whitening toothpastes, paint-on whitening products and whitening strips.

Side effects

There are a number of whitening materials that have some side effects. The gel in many whitening methods makes the teeth sensitive to hot and cold foods, drinks and air temporarily. The trays used to bleach teeth can also cause sensitivity to the gums.

Some over the counter whitening products may wear down the teethes enamel if used too zealously. For this reason, it is recommended to undergo teeth whitening treatments under the supervision of a North Naples cosmetic dentist.

Teeth whitening costs varies according to the type of methods – at home or in-office. In-office services cost from $100 to $800 and at-home bleaching trays custom-fitted by a dentist cost from $300 to $2,000.

Have you been to a North Naples cosmetic dentist lately for a teeth whitening procedure?
