Great post on taking it slow in early recovery, from Danielle Stewart. (We call it the Red Zone of recovery -- where you need to focus on your recovery and pretty much nothing else. School, relationships, diet, exercise -- it really can wait until later, the Yellow Zone.)  #addiction #recovery

Did you miss the ‪#‎RecoveryTalk‬ twitter chat with Al Mooney, MD, this week? We had a lively discussion on relapse, and what you can do to avoid it and/or bounce back afterward.

You can still read it: we've got a ‪#‎Storify‬ recap below.

Thanks to +The Delray Recovery Center, +Sober Nation and Party Sober Clothing for having Dr. Mooney on as your guest!

Recovery begins with sobriety & initiates the process of developing a life. Usually this takes off from when the drinking began: so I started drinking at 14, I was a sober 30-something acting like a 15-year-old. It gets better.

"Resist the cynical “bah, humbug” attitude that will just make you feel more distant from others. Instead, adopt an attitude of “wise understanding” about how the season is so much more complicated than the songs and commercials and holiday parties would suggest. Try a mantra, like “It ain’t necessarily so,” when you find yourself thinking that others have a better life right now than you do."

“Christmas is like a snowstorm that we all go through together, with good parts and bad,” Dr. Doherty says. “Some years it’s more good, and some it’s more bad.”
