Beware of Bait and Switch Tactics

You’re ready to have your wall to wall carpeting professionally cleaned and want to get the best job for the best price, right?

You may have received a coupon in a Valu Pak or via direct mail, advertising $6.95 per room! It may seem like a great deal, but how can they afford to charge such a low price? As a reputable business owner who has been serving this area, I can tell you with all certainty, THEY CAN’T! The gas alone, to get to your home would make this a losing proposition for the company. Then there are cleaning agents, set up and tear down time, and the actual job labor – a firm charging $6 or $9 a room would soon go broke.

How/why are they charging this price? The answer is simple – Bait & Switch! Here is a typical scenario: Once inside your home, you are informed that the advertised price is for basic steam cleaning – in other words, only using clear water. Take it from me – you cannot properly clean even a lightly soiled carpet without proper cleaning agents such as pre-conditioner, emulsifier & various spot cleaners. Oh, they have these products in their truck, but if they USE them on your carpets, your $6 a room price just went up to $75. Then, there is the high pressure add on sales (Scotchguard™, deodorizing) as well as a charge for moving any furniture. Throw in the nominal travel charge and the 2 rooms you thought you would be paying $12 to clean have just cost you $300, not to mention the lousy job performed by the inexperienced technician you have been sent!

These companies hire right off the street and pay on a commission basis. Commission on what? On all of the up-sell, of course! They are routinely sued, go out of business, and resurface under a new name. Save yourself the trouble!

We pride ourselves on high quality Professional Carpet Cleaning with trained & skilled technicians. You pay the price you are quoted! Our sole purpose is to please you, as well as extend the life of your carpeting with a professional & thorough job! Don’t be taken in by Bait & Switch companies!

Remember the old adage – “You get what you pay for!”

Common Misconceptions About Carpet Cleaning

Below are a few common misconceptions that you should know before you make your decision in hiring a carpet cleaner in Vancouver.
Misconception #1

All carpet cleaners and carpet cleaning companies are all the same. I might just as well hire the company that quotes the lowest price.

Usually not. Some carpet cleaning companies offer a low price to persuade you to call, but then add on services you thought were included in the price. It would be like a car dealer quoting you for a new car and then telling you the steering wheel and windshield are extra.

Misconception #2

It makes no difference which method of cleaning you choose.

This is incorrect. One has several methods to choose from: Bonnet, Dry Foam, Dry Compound and Hot Water Extraction (steam cleaning). Some cleaning systems are considered interim maintenance cleaning systems and others are regarded as restorative by the industry. Only Hot Water Extraction (steam cleaning) can employ a rinse step to leave your carpets as residue free as possible.

Misconception #3

All a company needs to clean carpets correctly is the right equipment.

This is incorrect. Many cleaning companies own professional carpet cleaning systems, but they don’t teach their technicians the proper ways to use them. Make sure the cleaning company you choose has technicians who are trained by certified carpet instructors.

Misconception #4

The longer you wait between carpet cleanings, the better.

This is incorrect. Dirt is like sandpaper. It damages your carpet. The more often you have your carpets cleaned, the longer they will last. Industry standards recommend that you clean your carpets every 6 to 18 months, depending on your lifestyle.

Misconception #5

Carpet cleaners don’t provide references.

This is incorrect. Carpet cleaners provide customer references all the time. If the cleaner you’re considering won’t provide references, you know the cleaner:

Is new to the business and doesn't have references.
Is dishonest and doesn't have good references.
Does poor work and will never warrant a favorable recommendation.
