Superb high end bike shop specializing in sleek European electric bikes and their accoutrement. Behind the retail front end is a full service mechanics' shop, good for fixing regular or electric bike woes. Staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about everything to do with e-bikes--- the family that runs the shop are true pioneers and evangelists for e-biking. In short, this is the place to go for all things e-bike in San Francisco.

Good selection of European e-bikes, including lots of mid-drive models, and high end models that go faster.

Knowledgeable, helpful, and low key. Excellent service. A pleasure to work with, and onto something very exciting. We are lucky to have them in our city.

Before visiting San Francisco I did some research about bike stores /rentals. After reading so many great customer reviews about Karen and Brett's store "The New Wheel" I booked a Stromer from Germany. These people obviously love what they do. For nearly one week I rode the bike not only all over the city more than once:-) I went even to the Muir Woods! and made it with ONE battery charge back to downtown!! Another day I rode over Angel Island. From there went to Tiburon and all the way back to Conzelman Road! I lost one security cable -lock and Karen even didn't charge me for that! Take a spare battery and enjoy unlimited tours throughout your day. I highly recommend this store for excellent customer service and high quality well maintained bikes Thank you Karen, Matt, Brett and Dad:-)"

Bought my electric bike here last year, and couldn't be happier with it! The staff at New Wheel are excellent, and when I brought in my bike for a service issue recently, they went above and beyond the call of duty taking care of it. Top notch all around!

My girlfriend and I rented electric bicycles from The New Wheel while we were visiting SF one weekend. The staff working there was incredibly helpful as they made sure the bikes fit properly, we had helmets that were properly sized, and even gave us a map with recommended routes and sights to see! Riding the bikes was incredible. They are so quiet you forget that you're on an E-bike -until you hit a hill. Then, suddenly your legs become pistons on unconquerable strength powering past children, the elderly and even self-righteous hipsters on any incline. We rode up Telegraph Hill to Coit Tower with ease, cruised along the Embarcadero in style, and zoomed our way over the Golden Gate and back to the Presidio without breaking a sweat! When we had returned to the store after a full day of biking, we still had about 50% battery remaining, a testament to how efficient and advanced these machines are. If you want to see a beautiful city on a an elegant machine, I cannot recommend a better method.

They've done a lot of work for me. I've always been pleased by their ability and their professional, friendly demeanor. If you want premium work on your bike (e-bike or otherwise) I'd highly recommend them.

New Wheel chalk street sign inspires San Francisco Chronicle nostalgia piece. ‪#‎goelectric‬
In front of the New Wheel, an electric-bike store on Cortland Avenue, Darryl Forman noticed a sign that said, “50 years ago, Dylan went electric.” Actor Ian Swift, who plays Doc in the Mountain Play’s production of “West Side Story” (which runs through June 19), says the musical is still powerful, “almost operatic in scope, and so relevant for today’s domestic and world-wide culture of violence and hatred.” Swift was reminded of June 1962, as ...

A new Yamaha motor system and three new trekking bikes from +Haibike.  Together, they make an amazing value for folks wanting a versatile commuter or fire-road explorer.
The 2016 Haibike SDURO trekking bikes each feature the new Yamaha PW Series motor, which bears many similarities to the Bosch system we love here at The New Wheel. The Haibike SDURO Trekking SM features a 9-speed SRAM drivetrain, Tektro brakes and the option to upgrade to fenders, a rear rack and front and rear lights. The next level up bundles lights, rack and fenders on the Haibike SDURO Trekking SL, along with a 10-speed Shimano Deore d...
