If holy scriptures consistently made clear and unambiguous statements against things like violence, genocide, racism, slavery and hatred: how you read it wouldn't matter. Yes you can read scripture and find inspiration to do wonderful things, or you can read it and find inspiration to commit atrocities--and few atrocities exist that aren't both condoned by and in scripture. And no, we shouldn't assume that someone who believes in scripture is the later. But that also doesn't mean the later is simply 'reading scripture wrong'--both sides are cherry picking what they read and how they interpret to justify their actions.
