By using custom designs that showcase uncommon plants, we create combinations for our clients that are anything but cookie cutter.

If you thought last year’s invasion of gypsy moths was of biblical proportions hold on to your hat. According to experts, this year could be just as bad, if not worse. #gardening #landscapedesign #gypsymothcaterpillar

Imagine sitting in your living room looking out at a beautiful specimen tree which is uplit so the branches seem to shimmer. Picture a romantic dinner on the patio with soft mood lighting.

As a garden designer, I appreciate the fact that landscape lighting shows off my work but there are other benefits. Safety and security issues can be addressed with landscape lighting in ways that are effective but not disruptive. And, like a good landscape, a well-designed lighting design adds value to your home.

“Comparison is the thief of joy” – Theodore Roosevelt.

True words. Especially nowadays with all the opportunities social media provides to make you feel inadequate.

Anyone besides me compare your life, marriage, kids to all those trumpeting their successes on Facebook?

There are so many wonderful houseplants out there. I use them extensively in my outdoor containers. Calathea, gardenia, spider plant, zz plant, sansevaria – these are all great options for summer containers.

Planting a #houseplant outside is really no different than planting annuals or perennials or vegetables. Make sure you give the houseplant its basic needs: good soil, and the right light and moisture and it will reward you by performing as well outside as in. Keep in mind if your houseplant is part of a combination in your containers it needs to get along with the other cast members. In other words, don’t plant pothos or philodendron (low-light lovers) with sedum or portulaca (high-light lovers). When the weather cools and it’s time to bring the houseplants in I always recommend giving them a good shower to remove any hitchhikers.

When shopping for your spring or summer containers why not look in the houseplant department? Or if you already have houseplants why not send them to summer camp for a few months? You may be surprised by the “wow” factor they can add to your containers. #containergarden #garden

Read a story of love - Garden Love.

The Summer Garden - A Feast for the Senses.
It is a sumptuous, intoxicating buffet with beauty everywhere you look as spring’s small beginnings give way to a larger potential. Peonies flirt with our noses. Coneflowers woo all kinds of #pollinators.

The fall garden, like a more mature love, values a beauty based on character rather than beauty based on looks.

A well-designed winter garden is not unlike the relationships that have gone through the years and weathered the storms to find the roots still hold.

Beauty and the #Bees - A Different Way of Looking at Garden Design

#Gardening just for our own pleasure is not only selfish, it’s dangerous. Colony Collapse Disorder and the plight of pollinators have made us aware that we do not garden alone. We need to be designing landscapes and gardens with a mindful eye to the environment around us.

Many clients like to dress their homes for the season or a special event. A beautiful custom wreath or centerpiece can complete the look in the same way the right shoes and bag can make the outfit. This is especially true during the holidays. In addition to creating beautiful, one-of-a kind, wreaths to complement urns and windowboxes, we can trim the tree, deck the halls, and light the lights. The magic outside complements the magic inside and best of all our clients are free to truly enjoy the most wonderful time of the year.
