Yellow Jackets will swarm small engines, such as lawn mowers and blowers. Be careful when working in the dark in the late summer and fall when the yellow jacket populations are at the highest and most aggressive.   #yellowjackets   #askanexpert   #murfreesboro

Meet the robber fly... they are commonly mistaken for the horse fly.  They are usually over 1" long, but will generally only bite if you handle them.  He is feasting on a yellow jacket for lunch.  He was resting on my windshield during a drive this past weekend.

We continue to have calls coming in about Yellow Jacket and Hornet nests being found around homes. They could be in the ground, under an eave, in the folds of an outdoor curtain, in a folded up umbrella, or under a deck. Any where they can find shelter to build a nest. This time of year they become very aggressive and will attack.

Caution... We have been receiving calls this week about people getting stung while mowing the lawn by yellow jacket wasps.  The yellow jackets will nest in the ground and in late summer, the nests will have hundreds of hungry wasps ready to defend the nest.  The noise and vibration from the lawn mower disrupts them and they attack.  Walk the lawn and watch for the yellow jackets flying from the ground burrows before you start to mow.  And if you find them, be careful around them.  They are aggressive.

Ticks are being reported all around Middle Tennessee.  I found this tick on my leg on Sunday after stopping at a produce stand for some fresh veggies.  Keep a lookout for ticks this summer.  IT is tick season here!   #tickseason   #askanexpert   #pestcontrol

Honey bees out in search of pollen.  Please be aware of honey bees when you are out and about.  These are not pests, but a beneficial insect that pollenates crops and makes honey.  If you leave them be, the bee will leave you be.   #honeybee   #beneficialinsects

If you have siding that has water damage and looks like this, it really needs to be repaired. Not addressing these areas can lead to additional interior stud wall damage and damage to the sill plate. Carpenter ants and termites are also attracted to wood that has a high moisture content. Mold and fungus will also begin to grow and cause additional damage.

Proper repair and maintenance of your residence is important when it comes to pest and structural issues. Hope this helps.
