Modern British Restaurant
The Bell Inn, set in the lovely historic village of Horndon on the Hill, is a 15th Century Coaching Inn run by the same family for over 75 years. The two busy bars have the warm, friendly atmosphere of a ‘proper’ pub. There is an open fire, numerous ales on hand pump and a top-class wine by the glass list. The menu changes daily, using seasonal and local produce where possible. Upstairs, and in the Georgian properties next door but one, are 27 individually styled bedrooms featuring both modern and period twists that remain sympathetic to the beautiful buildings in which they reside. The Bell is featured in all the serious guides and has won numerous industry awards including being recommended in The Times Cool Hotel Guide 2014 and The Sunday Times Food List as one of the 10 best gastropubs in the UK. Facilities: restaurant, bar, hotel rooms, outside eating area, open fire, meeting rooms, private dinning, functions & events.

We ate in the Ostlers Restaurant during our stay and I would highly recommend it. The chef came and spoke to personally about my dietry requirements and the staff were very accommodating. Both the meal and service were exceptional. The room was beautiful as well. Very much enjoyed my stay.

The Bell Inn is set in a nice friendly village, we stayed in the new High House rooms which are decorated to a very high standard. We had dinner reservations at the Osterly in Hill House. The food was amazing and the chef came out himself to make a menu for my partner who has a gluten and dairy allergy.

we went to the bell for lunch today, as it was my birthday and we normally eat here it was the only place we would have chosen. The restaurant was empty when we arrived, we ordered a drink and asked the waitress if we could reserve a table. she said no problem just take your time. we sat in the main bar and finished our drink. I then think it was the manageress who approached me and said can you sit at your table as we are turning people away she then just walked away. we went to sit at our table and I saw her discussing we the waitress and pointing and looking in our direction. this made me feel uncomfortable so I approached the bar and saw the manageress seating customers in an area of the restaurant which was not full. I asked another member of staff if I could speak to her once she had finished seating the customers. She approached us I explained that I did not like the way that she had spoke to me. she did apologised but then went on to say that she did not feel that she had been rude, she also said that the table should not have been reserved in the first place. as a manageress of the restaurant I feel that you should have control of the restaurant and staff at all times and instead of being rude to customers who were regulars. I felt that this person upset me so much that I left without eating. I have always recommended your restaurant to family and friends but now I will not and I will never eat there again. as you have such a high ranking amongst other pub restaurants I feel you should not rest on your laurels.

I can fully see why this place has won so many awards over the decades. The menu is inventive, the food is incredible, the wine list is thoughtful and the service is top notch. Set in a beautiful old pub with open fires and heavy beams, this is one of the best pubs for food I've ever experienced. It's definitely the best I've found in the local area. As there are steps to the main door, pushchairs are not allowed in due to fire regulations but high chairs are available. In fact, our waiter went to a sister pub up the road to fetch ours for us.
