I was very pleased with my recent stay at The Avalon Hotel. I spent a lot of time researching the hotels in NYC. I ultimately chose The Avalon due to location, price, no shared bathroom, and included mini fridge. (I don't remember if there was a microwave included - because we never needed to use one.) I registered via a GroupOn deal too, so that was helpful. Our Standard room was huge and very clean. We both slept well on the bed. We took advantage of the private safe. You can create your own 4-digit pass code for security. The safe was very easy to use. The hotel is fairly close to two subway stations. It's also fairly close to the Empire State Building, but you don't suffer from intolerable foot traffic. We stayed for 4 nights. Unfortunately, 2 of those nights, when we returned from our adventures, our room key wouldn't work. The front office claimed that our keys must have been stored too close to our phones or credit cards. This may have been the case, but it was a little fishy. The front office staff were able to fix this issue without a problem, though, so it was only a minor inconvenience. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay at The Avalon Hotel and would stay again.

Can rate based on meeting space- good location, quiet space, wifi performed fairly (didn't download much but general work related traffic was acceptable), snacks in the rooms are standard pastry etc. the meeting organizer is super friendly and works hard to accommodate And ensure a smooth meeting.

Location was a plus...Old building, room and furniture, decent lobby... We arrived a 3:00AM and had phoned because our flight was delayed...and found our room NOT made!!! of course, at 3:00 in the morning they had no maid and I had to make our own beds after a long transatlantic flight...Ali at the reception desk had no explanation why our room was not made, apologized and promised to credit that one night stay...Next day, Iris and Andrea, managers promised to take care of it...Well, the only gave us 25% credit for our bother!!!

Nice atmosphere. Really close to herald square but pretty quiet once you get in. There's a library seating area and the same classy look throughout the hotel. Elevators are a little small and take a while to go between the floors during primary check in and out times but overall not bad.

Air conditioner did not work, bathroom door had two large holes sloppily filled with spackle, pillows were thin and very lumpy, Windows did not have screens, room had almost no power outlets and we had to unplug all the lights to charge phones and use my cpap for treatment of sleep apnea. Had an iron but no ironing board, I think this place would have been nice 20 years ago but it's a dump anymore.

Spacious, decent hotel. Didn't expect the hotel near fifth street offer bonus room with sofa and desk. Although on the busy Korean street , it is very quiet. Will book again for next New York trip.
