"Hello

We have discovered that a company we hired to help promote our website ????? have used a variety of questionable techniques to secure links to our website. These links were placed purely for SEO purposes, with the intention of manipulating search rankings.

It appears that there may be links like this that have been placed on your site.

The presence of these links is harmful to our site's good standing with search engines, and unfortunately, retaining them may also be potentially harmful to your own website's reputation.

We would ask that you please remove any links on your site that link to ?????

So far as we are aware, there are links at the following URL/URL's:
?????

We would greatly appreciate your help with resolving this problem.

You can also let us know once the links to ????? have been removed by email to links@?????

If you need any more information from us, please email me and I will be happy to assist.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you and do appreciate your help.

Sincerely"

Why a dumb link removal request

1. If you are going to request link removal don't use an email address links@ as it looks like your link removal is outsourced.

2. Do you really want nofollowed links removed?

I feel that this issue is here in the first place due to the fact that so many SEO practitioners are not qualified within the marketing field, and thus do not understand the true value of links, and how they should be framed within your content, from a marketing perspective.

After all each link that you have within your content to other off page information needs to add value to your content, from the perspective of your intended target market audience.

If a link does not add value to your content, then it has the potential to become toxic in the eyes of a search engine, and that is the reason that all in page marketing links, such as banner adds or links in other syndicate marketing networks like Google Add words, should all carry  the  NO FOLLOW attribute.  This allows a search engine to interpret these link as a paid marketing / advertising links and thus distance them, or dis-associate them  from your semantic footprint.

I wish more folks could understand this....

I'm not a Royalist, I'm not an anti-Royalist.

I admire the job the Royals do, and think the UK is a better place for them.

The Prince Charles letters I have seen, make me admire him even more if anything.

URGENT Google SEO problems !

Apparently I've got an urgent Google SEO problem

"The industry traffic volumes detailed below suggest that there are
up to 325,000 searches for keyphrases directly related to your business every year.

The highest ranked industry keyphrase for uksmallbusinessdirectory.co.uk is “surekill pest control leeds”
which is currently in position 50
on Page 5 of Google."

Well, b-------r me, I sure do wish I could rank higher for  *surekill pest control leeds*

Maybe I should sign up for that FREE Website SEO Audit & Full Rank Report after all!

Has Google switched off location settings in Search Tools?

The 1st thing I do when searching is use Search Tools to set my location (generally set it to UK)

This overrides  Google using your Internet address when displaying results, or I should say, it did override your Internet address.

This morning it doesn't matter where I set my location to Google is still using my Internet address.

Have Google switched off location settings in Search Tools or is something broken?

Note: doing the same thing on IE, Chrome and FF whether signed in to Google or not.

+Mike Blumenthal I thought it was something I was doing differently.  I guess I have seen the problem as well.  Was confused about what I was seeing so searched a different way using the location in the search terms.  That seemed to work.

Does the Google +1 button or Google +1's have any relevance today

When the Google +1 button 1st came out I created a very simple Google +1 checker that showed how many Google +1's a page had received.

It was very popular and would often get 100's of visitors a day, sometimes in the 1,000's

Jump forward a couple of years and the same +1 checker receives a handful of visitors a day.

Is there really any point in the Google +1 button any more or has it had its day?

Finding out where Facebook visitors are coming from?

My Hens site suddenly had a mass increase in visitors this afternoon.

On checking my stats they appear to be coming from Facebook.

Does anyone know of a way of finding out where about they are coming from?
One of the problems with leaving the back door open at The White Cottage is the hens! We had to leave the door open so the carpenter could get in to finish some little jobs off. What we didn't expect was to come back and find a hen in the bedroom. I must admit, I would have been no wiser had Tom ...

Oops!

Go to number 5 and click the  Where can you learn how to code? link.

Hint: Tell whoever wrote the code to be careful of spaces at the end of links ;-)
Many people are beginning to realise how valuable coding skills are in today's job market. Yet only 1 in 10 adults in the UK have any knowledge of how it works.

It would never really cross my mind to write a review about a store like TK Maxx, but for one thing, the friendliness, professionalism and helpfulness of the staff in the Stratford branch. The store itself is well laid out, items are good (nice and cheap), store seems to always be clean, but it's the staff that make it, they really are a credit to TK Maxx

The beauty of Shipston Pizza & Kebab house is I can get away with having a kebab without getting too much of a rollicking from the wife. The reason being the kebabs are far more health than your usual kebab house (or at least that's what I tell her) Service is always very friendly, food is always fresh and packaged, delivery is always on time.

Lovely little wildlife park and gardens with lots to see and do. The beauty of Cotswold Wildlife Park is it is compact but without being crammed which enables you to have a pleasant stroll all around with out missing anything. Set in lovely unspoilt grounds even the children's adventure playground blends in nicely as it is mainly wooden climbing frames and slides nestled in the shade of the trees. The restaurant is basic but prices are reasonable, ice creams and drinks don't cost an arm and a leg like comparative attractions. The trip on a miniature train is a must as is the children's farmyard area and the star of the show has to be the playful Asian Small-clawed Otters

Broadway Hill is the 2nd highest point in the Cotswolds and with Broadway Tower being 55ft tall it means when on top you are the highest point. What's nice about Broadway Tower is the three floors have been divided in to different sections depicting different eras of the tower. One floor is dedicated to previous owner William Morris, another gives a more general history of the tower and it's connections with Capability Brown. From the top you can see 12 counties on a clear day and with high upstands you feel totally safe, even if you don't like heights. The staff are very friendly and will tell you more history of the tower, and it also has a nice little gift shops selling all the usual things you would expect, plus a few you wouldn't "Chocolate coated deer droppings!" Set in a lovely location Broadway Tower is lovely for just a short couple of hours visit and on a lovely windy day it is even nicer.

Lovely little gift shop with a nice atmosphere, nice little gifts & cards and nice friendly staff. Set in a lovely old building in Shipston town square, Ivy Heart is perfect for those last minute little traditional gifts, nice wrapping paper and nice cards when you don't want to drive to the bigger towns.

Good old traditional butcher who prepares joints to the customers request. Always friendly and provides helpful advice on the best joints to use if ask what is best for a particular meal. Plenty to choose from and the preparation of chestnut stuffed turkey crowns for Christmas is 2nd to none. Nice selection of traditional sausages and in the better weather also supplies ideal barbeque titbits

Great service, great product, great price. I had been putting off getting a new kitchen but then decided at the last minute to go for it. I called in at Howdens in Stratford on the Tuesday, took a couple of samples home, ordered kitchen on Wednesday and it was delivered on the Friday. One length of worktop and 4 or 5 door fronts were out of stock, but I told them my carpenter was booked in for the following Monday and Tuesday so they did some chasing around and got them to me 1st drop on Tuesday morning from another branch. Very pleased with the finished kitchen, the quality is better than I expected and the price was a good £500 lower than I expected. With the saving I had made I decided to get some up stands to match the worktops and a nice pewter coloured glass splash back for behind the cooker and thankfully these were both in stock and ready for collection. The staff at Howdens were very friendly and helpful, I received a price on the same day I dropped in the initial measurements and they also did me some mock up 3d views and scaled drawings so I was sure I was ordering right kitchen. All in all a very pleasant experience with great assistance from friendly knowledgeable staff.
