What does Google See?

Look at this page on a desktop
http://www.uksmallbusinessdirectory.co.uk/mob-demo.asp

Look at the same page on a mobile.

You will see the content is slightly different.

When I do a fetch and render in Webmaster tools as a desktop user I see the desktop version (as expected)

When I do a fetch and render in Webmaster tools as a smartphone user I see the mobile version (as expected)

When I search on Google from a desktop I see the desktop version (as expected)

When I search on Google from a mobile I still see the desktop version (not expected)

Why is Google showing the desktop version when searching on a Mobile even though fetch and render shows the mobile version?

I've been asked quite a few times why I don't have a reviews section on www.uksmallbusinessdirectory.co.uk and this is one of the reason why.

I did create a review system a few years ago, but soon realised that the people writing the reviews were either related to the business and leaving positive reviews or people acting maliciously leaving negative reviews, so scrapped the whole system.

It's not just the people writing the reviews and the companies paying for reviews who should be investigated, the review sites should be too.

I'm amazed some of the websites that provide review systems get away without being threatened with legal action.
Businesses are ambushing rivals with fake reviews and customers are reportedly using the threat of online criticism to win discounts, research finds.

Another Dumb Link Removal Request

Them - "Hi, you have a listing on the directory for ?????
I have been asked by our SEO agency to remove this listing as it is not helping our SEO."

My Reply - "Did you ask them why?"

Them - "They said that because the directory's domain authority is lower than our own it is not adding any value. They have asked us to remove nearly every link from our link profile as we trying to recover from a Google penalty."

Me  - I might email back and inform them that a plain text, non-clickable URL isn't a link, and that whoever is giving them SEO advice is as intelligent as a hamster, then again, I may just save myself the bother and just delete their listing.

What would you do? :-)

+Tim Capper Yeah, I've started doing that now.

It just annoys me that it's probably the same scummy companies doing the link removal now who were building the links in the 1st place.

The ones that annoy me most are the ones who ask for links to be removed, don't say where they are, and don't provide anything to say they have the authority to make the request in the 1st place.

They're generally from generic Gmail addresses and when you do ask for additional info you get no reply.

Who puts the Bee outside?

1. Person A: Can see the Bee
Person B: Can't see the Bee

2. Person A: Is in same room as the Bee
Person B: Is in a room opposite side of the building to the Bee

3. Person A: Is currently sat at table having just finished dinner
Person B: Is currently updating database, approving listings and upgrading a premium listing.

4. Person A: Has very mild allergies and if gets stung by Bee may suffer a little discomfort
Person B: Suffers from bad hay fever, is asthmatic and a Bee sting can cause a serious allergic reaction.

5. Person A: Is Female
Person B: is Male

I guess I better go put the Bee out :-(

+Craig Slight Sell only.

I did toy with the idea of providing an installation service for the modular ramp systems, but it's the sort of thing where it would cost more traveling to the jobs than doing the job.

The systems I sell are so simple to set up it makes more sense to supply only and the buyer install them themselves or use a local handyman

Is link removal the next big SEO scam or is it just ignorance?

Most of the listings in one of my directory sites include a plain text URL (not a clickable link).

I occasionally get the odd link removal request, but looking through the last 10 this is the result, 1 wanted a URL link removed, 3 wanted nofollowed links removed and 6 wanted links removed that aren't even links.

Are these link removal companies scamming their clients, are they just using automated tools that says something is a link when it isn't or are there really that many ignorant SEO/Link removal companies out there?

Is this just a blip with Notifications?

Every now and then my Notifications panel just acts like a Google+ Window meaning I can use Google+ via the Notifications panel.
Something new or just a blip?

It would never really cross my mind to write a review about a store like TK Maxx, but for one thing, the friendliness, professionalism and helpfulness of the staff in the Stratford branch. The store itself is well laid out, items are good (nice and cheap), store seems to always be clean, but it's the staff that make it, they really are a credit to TK Maxx

The beauty of Shipston Pizza & Kebab house is I can get away with having a kebab without getting too much of a rollicking from the wife. The reason being the kebabs are far more health than your usual kebab house (or at least that's what I tell her) Service is always very friendly, food is always fresh and packaged, delivery is always on time.

Lovely little wildlife park and gardens with lots to see and do. The beauty of Cotswold Wildlife Park is it is compact but without being crammed which enables you to have a pleasant stroll all around with out missing anything. Set in lovely unspoilt grounds even the children's adventure playground blends in nicely as it is mainly wooden climbing frames and slides nestled in the shade of the trees. The restaurant is basic but prices are reasonable, ice creams and drinks don't cost an arm and a leg like comparative attractions. The trip on a miniature train is a must as is the children's farmyard area and the star of the show has to be the playful Asian Small-clawed Otters

Broadway Hill is the 2nd highest point in the Cotswolds and with Broadway Tower being 55ft tall it means when on top you are the highest point. What's nice about Broadway Tower is the three floors have been divided in to different sections depicting different eras of the tower. One floor is dedicated to previous owner William Morris, another gives a more general history of the tower and it's connections with Capability Brown. From the top you can see 12 counties on a clear day and with high upstands you feel totally safe, even if you don't like heights. The staff are very friendly and will tell you more history of the tower, and it also has a nice little gift shops selling all the usual things you would expect, plus a few you wouldn't "Chocolate coated deer droppings!" Set in a lovely location Broadway Tower is lovely for just a short couple of hours visit and on a lovely windy day it is even nicer.

Lovely little gift shop with a nice atmosphere, nice little gifts & cards and nice friendly staff. Set in a lovely old building in Shipston town square, Ivy Heart is perfect for those last minute little traditional gifts, nice wrapping paper and nice cards when you don't want to drive to the bigger towns.

Good old traditional butcher who prepares joints to the customers request. Always friendly and provides helpful advice on the best joints to use if ask what is best for a particular meal. Plenty to choose from and the preparation of chestnut stuffed turkey crowns for Christmas is 2nd to none. Nice selection of traditional sausages and in the better weather also supplies ideal barbeque titbits

Great service, great product, great price. I had been putting off getting a new kitchen but then decided at the last minute to go for it. I called in at Howdens in Stratford on the Tuesday, took a couple of samples home, ordered kitchen on Wednesday and it was delivered on the Friday. One length of worktop and 4 or 5 door fronts were out of stock, but I told them my carpenter was booked in for the following Monday and Tuesday so they did some chasing around and got them to me 1st drop on Tuesday morning from another branch. Very pleased with the finished kitchen, the quality is better than I expected and the price was a good £500 lower than I expected. With the saving I had made I decided to get some up stands to match the worktops and a nice pewter coloured glass splash back for behind the cooker and thankfully these were both in stock and ready for collection. The staff at Howdens were very friendly and helpful, I received a price on the same day I dropped in the initial measurements and they also did me some mock up 3d views and scaled drawings so I was sure I was ordering right kitchen. All in all a very pleasant experience with great assistance from friendly knowledgeable staff.
