I was a regular - About me  -

I used to go by the name TJ on alt.internet.search-engines was a regular lurker and occasional poster from about 2002 to 2007.

I was predominantly doing SEO for fun back in those days, took part in the SERPs competition, learned most of my SEO from alt.internet.search-engines used my knowledge mainly for affiliate marketing.

I now just loaf around most of the time still playing at SEO, constantly running little SEO tests and trying out new ideas.

Any old alt.internet.search-engines regulars still out there?

Even if you only lurked or posted very occasionally, come along and join the  alt.internet.search-engines Google+ Community.

If you know any of the old regulars who are now on Google+ please invite them along too ;-)

Giving up a domain you don't really want to

I've had a domain that I really like for over a decade now.

I have always planned to do something with, but have had very little content on it in the past 5 years.

It's a 3 word hyphenated name so of little value in most circumstances apart from the fact I think it is cool and have always really liked it.

Out of the blue I got an email earlier in the week from someone who says they are setting up an organization using the name and asking if I would release it to them.

I've had these requests before but always tended to ignore them, but this one is from someone who says they want the domain for a health/education organization so I'm feeling a bit guilty about ignoring it.

The problem is, I very much doubt they would offer what I would want for it (as I really like it and it was one of my 1st domains) and I hate the thought they may think I'm just being greedy.

Should the fact it is a health organization make any difference or should I ignore unless they make an offer I am happy with?

Toys are made to be played with. Since it has no price worth accepting, why not build up some good karma and pass along all the joy it has brought you. Then you can both watch that joy spread to others from a site that is putting good into the world.

I popped in to alt.internet.search-engines on Google Groups the other day - What a mess?

If you remember the good old days before Google Groups ruined it feel free to join this community and start any discussions.

Suggestions for categories are welcome and if anyone has any ideas as to the direction the new community should head please let us know.

LOL! Wish I had more time, but I get it filled with other things. the forum was so much easier as we could use a reader and get notified when  someone responded. I think many of us just didn't have a life. :-)

The other day I wondered what every happened to "Bleach Boy" and a few other weirdos we would get coming to it.

Is earache an emergency?

Had an appointment with the asthma nurse yesterday, so whilst there asked to make an appointment about a bad earache I've had for 5 or 6 days now.

Previously, you go in to make an appointment and either get one later that day or the next day.

They say the system has changed now and the earliest I can make an appointment for is in a minimum of 2 weeks!

There didn't seem much point in that as chances are (hopefully anyway) by the time I get to see anyone it will probably be gone.

The receptionist then said if I ring back at 8:00 in the morning I could make an emergency appointment.

Emergency appointment for an earache! didn't seem right to me so I didn't bother.

Sat here now with a throbbing ear just not knowing what to do.

Should I really make an emergency appointment just for an earache?

Good old traditional butcher who prepares joints to the customers request. Always friendly and provides helpful advice on the best joints to use if ask what is best for a particular meal. Plenty to choose from and the preparation of chestnut stuffed turkey crowns for Christmas is 2nd to none. Nice selection of traditional sausages and in the better weather also supplies ideal barbeque titbits

Broadway Hill is the 2nd highest point in the Cotswolds and with Broadway Tower being 55ft tall it means when on top you are the highest point. What's nice about Broadway Tower is the three floors have been divided in to different sections depicting different eras of the tower. One floor is dedicated to previous owner William Morris, another gives a more general history of the tower and it's connections with Capability Brown. From the top you can see 12 counties on a clear day and with high upstands you feel totally safe, even if you don't like heights. The staff are very friendly and will tell you more history of the tower, and it also has a nice little gift shops selling all the usual things you would expect, plus a few you wouldn't "Chocolate coated deer droppings!" Set in a lovely location Broadway Tower is lovely for just a short couple of hours visit and on a lovely windy day it is even nicer.

I used Daniell Plumbing Ltd to completely re plumb and install a new central heating system in my new house at Honington. Everything went like clockwork, they always turned up on time, didn't leave jobs half finished and left everything nice and tidy. They supplied all the materials for the central heating including; cylinder, boiler, raiators, valves and oil tank at a reasonable price, and also supplied the showers and sanitary ware for the downstairs cloakroom at cost price. The pipework was nice and neat and located where it was easy to box in and the bathrooms both look a treat. I would definitely have no hesitation in recommending and using Daniell Plumbing again.

Great Service. It's been a few years since I made some Home Brew Lager but I suddenly had the urge to try my hands at being a brewer again :) I've no idea where all my old kit is so decided to order a little home brew starter kit from Trafford Homebrew. Despite only ordering online on Sunday afternoon I was pleasantly surprised when it turned up today (Tuesday) All very nicely packed and as described. It's all up to me now, if I use it properly I'll be having a drink and toasting Trafford Homebrew in a few months time :-)

Great service, great product, great price. I had been putting off getting a new kitchen but then decided at the last minute to go for it. I called in at Howdens in Stratford on the Tuesday, took a couple of samples home, ordered kitchen on Wednesday and it was delivered on the Friday. One length of worktop and 4 or 5 door fronts were out of stock, but I told them my carpenter was booked in for the following Monday and Tuesday so they did some chasing around and got them to me 1st drop on Tuesday morning from another branch. Very pleased with the finished kitchen, the quality is better than I expected and the price was a good £500 lower than I expected. With the saving I had made I decided to get some up stands to match the worktops and a nice pewter coloured glass splash back for behind the cooker and thankfully these were both in stock and ready for collection. The staff at Howdens were very friendly and helpful, I received a price on the same day I dropped in the initial measurements and they also did me some mock up 3d views and scaled drawings so I was sure I was ordering right kitchen. All in all a very pleasant experience with great assistance from friendly knowledgeable staff.

I used M K M Electrical Engineering Ltd to totally rewire my new house in Honington and was very impressed with the service provided.. I have completely refurbished the whole house which meant getting numerous trades in, and as anyone with any experience will tell you, the way these trades work and the reliability of these trades is key. With M K M a simple phone call was all that was needed to arrange them to do the various stages and they always turned up when they said they would, always did a good job and always finished when they said they would. They were always smart, polite, tidy and cleared up after themselves. They went out of their way to help and never moaned about the little extras, like adding a light over a dressing table, adding a mirror/light/shaving socket combination in the bathroom and a couple of extra outside lights. The price was reasonable, they completed the stages before invoicing and supplied the lamps and fittings at cost price. All in all, I had a great, reliable, trustworthy service from M K M Electrical Engineering Ltd

Great windows, great doors and great service. I initially used Prior Products to replace some existing windows in my new home and as I needed them to be FENSA approved I had Prior supply the whole service of surveying, measuring and fitting. I was pleased with the result so when I got permission for the extension went back to Prior for supply only of 2 new doors and 2 new windows. The price was very reasonable, but more important to me was they made everything nice and quick and delivered free of charge. The quality of both the windows and the doors was better than I expected as I was on a tight budget. I would definitely recommend Prior Products whether you want a full double glazing service including fitting or just want to buy new double glazing on a supply only basis.
