The #WeNeedDiverseBooks initiative reminds me of my favorite Margaret Mead quote ...

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

This is a great chronology of WNDB. [Except I take exception to saying YAlit = kidlit

There is adult literacy that is proven necessary just to taste academic writing and get your hands on it, and your head around it. I want to, and I should say what you say about sneaker verses. Jesus sandals maybe give humanity a further approach to getting better qualifications, by using each extended family living at happy commune levels ... while home schooling takes place ... to bring in the bands!!

The finding is not new, but I liked how the students' research demonstrated how outreach programs and hands-on learning play in an emerging reader's success (or not).
Each semester the Illinois Valley Community College Honors Program hosts students' community outreach events. This semester, three students hosted one outreach event.

We've launched a new series on our Family Bookshelf blog. The idea is to offer ways that busy families can blend literacy into everyday activities.

I'd love your feedback!

Thanks +Lili Thomson . So many things in our day we never think about with our "literacy lenses." It has been fun (re)discovering our family journeys.

Christmas Eve is here - so first, Merry Christmas! What books will you be sharing with the kiddos in your life tonight?

Merry Christmas! And it looks like it will be a hot one here in Oz.

I have books I'm excited to read my kiddos when Storytime returns: My Teacher is a Monster, Hug Machine, Sally Snicker's Knickers, The Tiny King, Sam and Dave Dig a Hole. As for me, I have just finished Umbrella Summer (MG), and Eon (YA) and enjoyed both very much. I was trying for #bookaday  but alas...thinking of inventing #1/3bookaday!

Fun with not-so-great books for those of us who hate to throw ANY book away!

I remember doing something like this with Reader's Digest magazines back in the day!
I'm a total book worm at heart. So when I come across a bad book (you know, bad story lines, too many cuss words, or whatever your reasoning for not liking a book), I usually just throw it away.  Well, I found a good use for ...

Now that Thanksgiving is officially behind us ... it is time to stop talking turkey and start talking books. So here is the question for y'all - what children's / YA books are you giving as gifts this year.
