The ham radio and the trash can.
#hamradio #hamr

The other day I noticed that whenever I keyed up my 2 Meter handheld radio near the kitchen, the lid of my infrared-sensored trash can would open. Hmmm, curious. Naturally I began to wonder if I could key the radio and toss an empty beverage can and avoid the laborious walk to the other side of the room. That's just how my mind works.

Norwegian radio amateur, LA3ZA, doesn't think the way I do, though. He has devised a hack for an IKEA automatic wardrobe light to use this phenomena to create a transmit indicator. Tweaking the circuitry and placing it near a feedline makes an effective "On the Air" sign.

Nice job, LA3ZA.
