Cool JS testing library for web apps

Monkey Testing Library

gremlins.js is a monkey testing library written in JavaScript, for Node.js and the browser. Use it to check the robustness of web applications by unleashing a horde of undisciplined gremlins.

While developing an HTML5 application, did you anticipate uncommon user interactions? Did you manage to detect and patch all memory leaks? If not, the application may break sooner or later. If n random actions can make an application fail, it's better to acknowledge it during testing, rather than letting users discover it.

Gremlins.js simulates random user actions: gremlins click anywhere in the window, enter random data in forms, or move the mouse over elements that don't expect it. Their goal: triggering JavaScript errors, or making the application fail. If gremlins can't break an application, congrats! The application is robust enough to be released to real users.

This practice, also known as Monkey testing, is very common in mobile application development. Now that front-end (MV*, d3.js, Backbone.js, Angular.js, etc.) and back-end (Node.js) development use persistent JavaScript applications, this technique becomes valuable for web applications.

Easy HTML5 parallax images!

Depthy (http://bit.ly/Depthy) is pretty darn amazing - it extract depth map info from photos made with Google Camera's Lens Blur and generates a smooth HTML5-based accelerometer driven parallax image from it. So easy! And with mobile support too! Are the days of static images finally numbered? :)

The source code is also online on GitHub (http://bit.ly/1hkNiRD). Amazing project and great job +Rafał Lindemann!

We just started using this format which combines a sitemap structure with basic wireframes. So far, we're loving the result! What do you all think?

Your sites  #UserExperience  doesn't just effect its  #conversion  it also impacts  #SEO

What kind of user experience ranking signals does Google take notice of? by +Chris Lake at +Econsultancy

There has been a lot of talk lately about responsive web design, and a number of questions have arisen about how Google perceives sites that go down this route.

Matt Cutts said responsive design “won’t harm rankings”. Given that Matt isn’t in the habit of telling everyone how to win at SEO, I think this is as close to an endorsement as we’re going to get.

‘Responsive’ is pretty much used as a byword for ‘mobile optimisation’, which is the science of crafting a better user experience for smartphone users. The key part of that sentence isn’t ‘responsive’, nor ‘mobile’, but ‘user experience’.

This is becoming a bigger deal, as far as SEO is concerned, and I suspect that we have only just begun to scratch the surface of what's going on.

There’s more to life than links you know
Google is evolving its algorithm to reduce its reliance on links, to avoid gaming, while providing better results.

What else does it (or might it) take notice of? Content. Social. Personal preferences. Behavioural data. Devices. Location. On-page factors. Search intent. All of these things are likely to play a much bigger role in the future.

User experience signals will also help Google to rank sites. How do we know this? Because they are already being used.
