I believe initially less is definitely more. How about you?
Can too many choices hinder decision making?

I first heard about this phenomenon based on a Stanford study at Draeger's market in Menlo Park. In that experiment, too many kinds of jelly resulted in reduced sales.

On the other hand, the customizability of the Moto X phone surely helped Motorola's sales, and one can cars in many colors. Maybe it's the availability of choices at the point of purchase (as opposed to the orderability of custom options) that's the key.

Anyway, this is something to think about for every marketer. Less may be more!

Women-Owned Small Business Opportunities – It Is the Law! ©

On Friday, December 19, 2014, The Small Business Administration (SBA) released details of the new law, signed by President Obama. The press release says: “Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Maria Contreras-Sweet, applauded the signing into law of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2015 today.  President Obama’s signature on the NDAA is a critical move that will now allow women-owned small businesses to earn their fair share of the federal marketplace and gain economic opportunities. Section 825 of the NDAA authorizes federal agencies to award sole-source contracts to women-owned small businesses eligible for the Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB) Federal Contract Program, giving women the same level of access to the federal contracting marketplace as other disadvantaged groups.”

Startups, that are majority-owned by women now account for more than one in four new companies, and these firms employ more than 7.8 million Americans.  Ms. Contreras-Sweet went on to say: “Passage of the women’s small business provision in NDAA is a win for women entrepreneurs and a win for America.  This will help women-owned small businesses gain equal access to federal contracting as they add jobs to the U.S. economy.”

This law is important for correcting a wrong regarding women entrepreneurs currently receiving less than five percent of all federal contracts.  In 2011, Congress established the WOSB Federal Contract program, however it was not executed.  From President Obama’s first day in office, providing economic opportunity to women has been a top priority and the steps to enact the program were put in motion, which was also implemented in April 2011.
The new provision in this law will give the SBA an administrative tool to ensure that women startups and entrepreneurs succeed in the federal contract and commercial space.
