Not much union in the European Union on this.
Political and cultural divisions that have emerged during this crisis were vividly exposed in Brussels on Thursday, the BBC's Chris Morris reports.

A question I have wondered myself. Surely rich Gulf states should be welcoming their Muslim brothers with open arms?
As the crisis brews over Syrian refugees trying to enter European countries, questions have been raised over why they are not heading to wealthy Gulf states closer to home.

With great power comes great responsibility.
A new study confirms humans' status as a unique super predator, and points to ways our impacts on other species could be lessened.

As my family don't use Google+ or Gmail, this could be a great way of keeping in touch as I don't want a FB account (like everyone else has).

Just 10 minutes walk from my home. This evening I took some coffee and chocolate biscuits with me and just enjoyed the beauty of this lovely Swedish lake (Öresjö).

Very intriguing!
A vast network of 200-year-old tunnels lies beneath Liverpool’s streets – and no one knows why they’re there. Chris Baraniuk meets the dedicated volunteers digging up their secrets.

I have been comparing Amazon Kindle book prices from Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk

I have noticed that from Amazon.com prices are often 50% higher than prices from Amazon.co.uk for the same book.

Since I have to buy my Kindle books from Amazon.com, I am displeased that I have to pay more because I live a bit to the right of the UK geographically.

Kindle books on Amazon.com are often more expensive than paperbooks.

And publishers wonder why people pirate copies from torrent sites.

Long before "human rights" were invented. The struggle for survival is a brutal one.
A mass grave containing at least 26 skeletons is further evidence of the brutal conflict that appears to have beset central Europe 7,000 years ago.

It seems once again experts are divided on what caused the extinction of the Neanderthals. I wish I could have met one and looked into those huge eyes!
Our extinct cousins had eyes much larger than ours. Were these giant peepers the reason for the Neanderthals' demise, or the secret of their success?

Story
Tagline
An Englishman living in Sweden with a passion for languages and Open Source software.
Introduction
My birth name is Terence Andrew Day. I was born in Birmingham and grew up in the West Midlands in a Black Country town called Oldbury. At 18 I left to study at Sheffield University, where I graduated in Germanic Studies. After graduation I moved to Denmark, got married, had children and became middle-aged. Lived in Denmark 30 years. I have recently relocated to Sweden.

I am a sci-fi and fantasy geek. I love watching old sci-fi and horror B-movies from the fifties and sixties. Trashy B-movies that are so bad, they are hilarious also find a place in my video collection.

My favourite sci-fi author is Peter F. Hamilton. His universe is as complex and satisfying as Tolkien's Middle Earth.

I switched to Linux about 8 years ago starting with Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon and regularly try out other distros. Currently running Ubuntu LTS and Linux Mint 15 KDE.

Music
I listen to anything from classical to heavy rock and metal to folk and medieval.

Digital photography
Just an amateur having fun (see my photos).

Computer gaming
I like to play fantasy RPG like Skyrim, Neverwinter, Diablo & Starcraft. I don't spend so much time these days playing, there are so many other things to do!

Nature
I am a nature lover and admire all things bright and beautiful.

Cooking
I like to cook/bake and am always interested in trying out new recipes.

Humour
British comedy mostly, we are world leaders in it after all! A sense of humour and not taking myself too seriously is what you will discover if you circle me.

Excellent tapas and the best paella (you have to order this the day before, so remember to book!) I have had outside Spain. Nice atmosphere, good service and fair price all round. I can highly recommend this restaurant. I am definitely going again and bringing friends and family here.

Very good food and service! The owner is Danish! Small and cosy place that is also very popular with the locals. Authentic tapas bar where you feel welcome. I highly recommend it!

For those interested in Viking/Danish history, this place must be on your list! Apart from the actual ring fortress itself you can see a Viking village, a reconstructed iron age log house, and in the museum artefacts recovered during excavation of the fortress. The fortress is from the 10th century and presumably built during Harald Bluetooth's reign. Good museum shop and friendly staff.

Tourist trap! The only way to get a good look at Gaudi's works in the park is by waiting at least 40 minutes and paying. Illegal vendors everywhere.

Have eaten there two times so far. Excellent food and good friendly service. Prices are also reasonable. You must try their meat pasties, aubergine with goat's cheese, duck ham, and not least a fantastic lemon sorbet! Very authentic and full of locals. Come around 19.00 before the rush! Menus are available in English too.

Ignore the German review that is 3 years old. I ate there a couple of days ago (January 17, 2013). I ordered a lamb curry (one of the specialties of the house), samosas and a roti. Everything tasted excellent. I was promptly served and enjoyed very much the decor of the restaurant. I know my curries and frequently make Indian food at home (I am a Brit!), the food here was very good. Compared to Denmark the prices are very reasonable too. I can highly recommend House of India and will probably eat there again next time I visit Erlangen.
