Hi JD~ We had a great weekend in Catalina. I managed to convince my wife that taking a detour to the east end of Catalina and trolling through that warm water on our way to Moonstone was the right thing to do. We found some birds crashing bait about 100 yards off some kelp. We had no bait so we Trolled by the boil and hooked a dorado. Then on to Moonstone. Our little guy “Hill" was pretty excited. Everyone wins Kevin
We got Peppi Le Peow off the boat today! We T/R one just off the west end (27/38) ~let him go at 12:10. http://www.tempbreak.com/?lat=33_27&lon=118_38

xJewelLure Marlin Report 8/9~8/10 We're pretty stoked, 2 fish in 2 days, lots of action, there were at least 6 fish (probably more) caught in that zone for about 10 boats. There is A LOT of marlin out there right now and really spread out. If these fish concentrate within a few distinct areas it's going to be something special. Until then, our flags have two weeks to fly. Hope everyone does well this year, sure seems like it's going to be a great one. Warren Jr.
Only a couple of weeks away~ make your plans for some great fishing~ JD

Got another one today JD. 125 area with pacific pioneer Jewel Lure
Comment of big fish sighting today. A number of years ago (6~7?) I think there were three or four Blue Marlin taken in So Cal. This years water is even warmer and with the Tunas and Mahi here it is very possible. It would be a test for the Linen line guys! Many years ago was aboard John Paul Richards 46 Merritt "French Look" in Cabo doing bait and switch. He was fishing four frozen Ballyhoos, heaviest line was 20 lb. Trolling only teasers. He and got one 250 Blue on 12lb. Learned a lot from that team! I'm sure the local light line guys could get it done if it happens here. This season is really something so far. Mike, Ace Hi.
Three up, in the jigs ~ big fish~ I wasn't 400 yd's off Church Rock~ first thing in the morning~had the three fish up in the jigs~ big fish came in~ lost it on 20 dac solo~Shadow~
~Good way to kick off the season Pacific Pioneer releases three marlin over the weekend~ congrats~ JD
~ Sats Reports continue ~
The morning's chatter~ seas dead slick calm with a glossy rolling swell from the south gave visuals of kelps there~ then not there behind the glare of the sea. lots of boats out~
Big bulls swimming around ~ watchin them ~them watching us~ they won't eat~ yellowtails too were off the Domes~ number of paddies here~ you out at the 209~ couple of miles inside, the yellowfin are here~ they eating the macs~ were on~ 9:12am
Congrats on the released marlin yesterday hooked on a jig off the East end of Catalina~ ~ husband, wife and dog as it should be~ She's got to be getting pretty good on the wheel by now, earlier in the day they had baited two swordfish~ and one bite~ they were on the fish 1/2 hour before it got away~ good team I'd say~ congrats~ JD
Reports of more and more tuna being seen mid channel/ shipping lanes~ they dont want to bite the feathers just yet~ 9:59am
Got one tanker maybe 30 35 couple of 20ers~outside and above the 209~ there's a fleet of boats behind me~ mackeral you say~ no kidding did you get it~!~
got a couple yellowin and a bluefin~
Waters dirtier at Salt Creek than here local off Ab point ant that's not really clean~ we didnt do much there at all~ and only a few leagls off the point.
you know the limits on Dorado or yellowtail were here right off the East end of Catalina couple of paddies here~ all you wanted pretty wide open here~ about 5 shy of avalon~ 10:31am
Small thresher sharks along the coastline~ small~ like 20 40 lbs~ Huntington flats~ newport~
Word come in of the Pacific Pioneer having released their second marlin of the day! 2:30pm~ Patty Blower released her fish on 20 dacron~ a twelve minute fish~ that's hot fishing! Jig fish~ bleeding mackerel close to the West end of Catalina 's 125 fathom spot~ Their first fish came earlier in the day off the backside of the island ~5 off the "V", it's the Tuna Club of Avalon's, first qualifying fish for a member on 20 dacron as a Tagged and released fish~ Paul Hoofe fishing 20 dacron had a 20 minute battle ~ conditions look real good around the island this year~ stand by~ congrats to the Pacific Pioneer on a find days fishing~ JD ~ ~ tide turned at the mid afternoon ~ another jig bite~same lure color~ lost fish along that 100 fathom couture off the back side of the island~3:41pm~
Also I think Warren / Jewellure released a fish off Catalina earlier today and had one or two other shots at fish~ !!
JD~ this is Warren Jr on XJewelLure. Saw your update on the site so wanted to give you details. Released one at 7:40 this morning 10 off Cat Harbor towards 499. Lost another fish within a mile of that at 2pm. Picked up 7 yellows off a paddy. Tuna everywhere but moving fast and hard to get to bite. 4 other fish caught up this way including the two from Pac Pioneer.
Here's another picture of that marlin we released earlier today. Read your website just now after we returned home. Looks like a good weekend of fishing for couples ( another great team too) ! Mike and Leane Elias, Ace Hi.
Found the tuna mixed in with the porpoise. Early afternoon bite that lasted almost 2 hours with at least one hanging the entire time.

And more and more anglers came in the shop saying the had one of the best days fishing in their lives~ yellowfin bluefin dorado yellowtail~ a steady scattering of those small anchovies (dead) kept them coming all day~ found a trash can sized kelp~ sat on it and had fish all day~********************************
