We have been a proud supporter of the #GoodFridayAppeal telethon since 1957!
Last year we provided almost 300 fixed telephone lines and connected over 27,000 calls during the event to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital. Join us and donate today http://tel.st/g5fz

What are your thoughts?

Today we’re launching Google Camera, a new app for your Android phone or tablet that makes it easy to take quick photos and videos. And being behind the lens just got more fun with new creative picture modes.

Sleek Design. The 100% viewfinder gets out of your way while capturing the maximum resolution of the scene (no dropped pixels). And the extra large capture button is easy to press so your eyes never lose sight of the subject.

Lens Blur. Emphasize the subject while blurring the background for an SLR-like shot with shallow depth-of-field (or bokeh). You can even change the subject in focus after taking the shot.

Improved Panorama. New higher resolution panoramas capture the full width and detail of a scene.

Photo Sphere. Immersive 360 degree photo spheres let you look up, down and all around...now at up to 50 megapixels! For the first time available on non-Nexus devices.

Google Camera is now available on the Play store (http://goo.gl/llsZjx), and works on all phones and tablets running Android 4.4+ KitKat. We’re just getting started, and in the months ahead we'll make Google Camera available to more devices, helping make photography easier, faster and more fun.

Check out our Research Blog to learn more (http://goo.gl/lUDfi8).

Lens blur is ok. I prefer +HTC One's UFocus and Duo Camera. Just take the photo and let the hardware take care of the rest.

Evolution would be great if we could get some assurances when buying a phone from telstra as to how many updates we will receive (surely every update for the 24month contract?) and that they will be deployed in a timely manner.

Tropical Cyclone Ita impacts North Queensland

Severe weather caused by Tropical Cyclone Ita overnight has cut mains power supply to some telecommunications services in the region.

The following services are affected:
-       landline and 3G mobile service at Hope Vale due to 3G base station at Mt Piebald;
-       3G mobile service at Cape Flattery;
-       60 ADSL services at Cooktown;
-       2G mobile service at Whitecliff; and
-       some Wholesale services.

Due to flooding and police blockades still in place, Telstra technicians are unable to access the affected areas, however crews are on standby to act as soon as it is safe to do so.

The area of Hope Vale will be an immediate priority for us and a Satellite Mobile Cell on Wheels is in Cairns and ready to be deployed as soon as possible.

With the extreme weather expected to continue over the weekend, we will continue to monitor the situation and provide the community with updates through our social media channels and via http://servicestatus.telstra.com/servicestatus/.

We also encourage customers in north Queensland to only use their mobiles in emergency situations so our network can carry as many of these calls as possible.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience and will do everything we can to get customers connected as soon as possible.
