In March, a barred owl visited the bird feeder, likely watching the seed debris on the ground for field mice.

Rare bluebird appearance, October 2012: first time in 20 years, bluebirds appeared in the yard and hit the birdbath, accompanied by goldfinches.

Recognizing that car are too big and deadly and drivers too inattentive to share the road with pedestrians, curbed sidewalks were invented in the last century. Separate lanes for unprotected cyclists is a natural and logical progression. Everyone wins!

Fascinating new intersection design which protects bicyclists from turning vehicles and safer for everyone.

Too true! This will work great in the great big open country of the Midwest and West, but on the East Coast, where roads were made from cowpaths and wide enough for horse-drawn wagons to pass, it's going to be tough. I think the only sensible thing to do would be to ban cars altogether. Only half- ;)

As a cyclist, and neither a very experienced nor skilled one, this is a painful reminder to all of us motor vehicle operators to be more careful and pay attention on the roads. Roads were built for transportation of all; first, horses, carts and by foot, and later for cycles and even later, motorized vehicles. All have a right to be safe in their travels.

RIP, Seth.

Poked around for much too long, but haven't yet found the magic button to set the license for these photos to CC SA-BY. Anyone know how to set Creative Commons licenses in Google Plus/Picassa. The UI keeps moving around, and a search yields useless last-year results.

Bike theft is a rotten crime. The victim loses their ride, often worth hundreds of dollars, and sometimes an essential part of their transportation. The thief gets nearly nothing, maybe enough for a fix or two. The reseller oftens sells crappy Franken-bikes unsafe to ride, so gullible riders get lousy rides.
Don't buy a bike if anything seems shady. Ask for the serial numbers and bail out if you don't get one. Register your bikes. Lock your bike and be smart about how and where and when.

Seems reasonable to me.
To: Craig Newmark (Craigslist, Founder), John Donahoe (eBay, CEO), Jim Buckmaster (Craigslist, CEO). Every 30 seconds, a cyclist has their bike stolen in the United States. Nearly half of college students with bicycles will lose them during their education. Bicycle theft is rampant in the United ...
