Here a good post to help you think through whether a #Chromebook is right for your needs.
There’s a lot to like about Chromebooks. They’re budget-friendly, have a lot of options, and are powerful enough to get things done. If you’re a student shopping for a laptop for school, they may be pretty attractive. For some students, Chromebooks are a savvy purchase, but for others, it’s a nightmare waiting to happen. Let’s see where you fall.

Keeping an eye on #CompetencyEd
The U.S. Department of Education is still sorting out how it will evaluate competency-based programs, but these seven bear watching.

Has anyone else heard the theory that using a case heats up your battery, resulting in higher temperatures and shorter battery life?

+Mark Harry you're not suppose to say that out loud. Now you're going to drop it at least 3 times.

Exhibit A: Why everything (especially governments and schools) should run on #Linux. #floss #opensource
More than a year after Microsoft pulled the plug on free support for the end-of-life'd OS, hundreds of millions of users are still clinging to the drifting ship.

Hi gang-- I really like the Renoise way of working but I've been struck by the quality of sounds available in the GarageBand virtual instruments. I want to sample them and use them inside of Renoise.
My stupid way of doing this is to go into GBand, record a track of one-shots, export it as AIFF, and then slice and sample it in Renoise so I can save it as an Instrument. This is a pretty labor intensive way to get these sounds, and I wanted to see if anyone knew of a more direct (and hopefully legal) way to accomplish this?

You can slave Renoise to GB but not vice versa. A guy on reddit recommended sending midi out from Renoise and into GB but so far it's been easier to just do what I described. BTW I'm trying to get instruments, not loops.

Great article about going beyond the basic #flippedclassroom model we all know and love to actually flipping the course from a "tell and test" modality to one that supports student activity, independent inquiry, and emergent learning.
This article was originally published on Kris Shaffer's blog on May 13, 2015. Dr. Shaffer will be offering a three-week online course, "The Flipped Classroom", starting July 19, 2015 through Digita...

Exploring intersections between Web 2.0, digital arts, and education.
Introduction
Ted Curran is an education technology polymath with broad experience in instructional design, classroom instruction, multimedia production, social media, and interpersonal communication. He aims to combine these passions towards the ultimate goal of empowering students and teachers to improve instruction through technology.
Ted has just accepted an Instructional Technologist position in Research and Development for Pearson Education’s Emerging Models division.
Ted’s lengthening resume in outcomes-aligned, project-based learning has spanned from teaching Digital Media Arts and English Language Arts in charter high schools (notably with Envision Schools) to training and supporting instructors’ use of technology and pedagogy at Samuel Merritt University. Ted also actively blogs on topics of education technology at TedCurran.net, sharing tips, tricks, and lifehacks for online educators. Before focusing on education, Ted worked in post production and content research for Paramount Domestic Television and other TV production houses in Hollywood.
In his free time he produces web design and photography as TrueSchool Creative, consults with education-focused institutions (notably Kochi University in Japan), and writes about education technology here at TedCurran.net. Ted is also a singer, multi-instrumentalist, and pusher of the limits of digital arts and communication. Ted lives in the city of Oakland with his beautiful wife, dog, and bird– and wouldn’t have it any other way.
