how is the licensing wealth distributed.

Could be a good idea (like an emulator) but it makes no sense and will create usability gap on the Windows phone

+1 for the image. hope to comment on the article in a minute.

+Justin Welenofsky I use ColorNote on my tablet and phone, and the notes sync. I'm lazy, it'd be convenient not to have to transcribe notes to my computer.

So this is a compatibility layer? Are they just leveraging advances in hardware or is the performance actually tolerable? At any rate, it's nice to finally see a compat layer, simulator, whatever it is, for Windows. I WAS wondering when cell phone apps would migrate to "bigger" platforms. sorry I haven't got anything more intellectual to share. Cheers.

Justin,

Sorry for my ignorance, but what's Dalvik?

Thank you. As soon as I can.

Oh, so it's a virtual machine. Thanks, that knowledge really helps me!

I like Bluestacks; use it on the PC at work so I can use my Android apps on a big screen. Plus it looks like I keep really busy :-D

I like bluestacks and I've used it a couple of times on my Windows 7 machine. However both times I've had to uninstall it because it is a massive RAM hog. The last time I uninstalled it, bluestacks was using almost 2gigs of my RAM for itself in the background while I wasn't even running the program. If they could fix that issue it would be perfect.....

THIS APP DOES NOT WORK ON ANY SURFACE PRO OR WINDOWS 8 THE APPS FRONT END JUST COLLAPSE ON LAUNCH THERE IS NO COMPATIBILTY TROUBLE SHOOT FIX WINDOWS XP MODE SERVICE PACK 3 FAILS TO FIX ANY PROBLEMS THIS APP IS A HUGE TURD RIGHT NOW PLUS THE NO INTERNET ACCESS THAT POPS UP TO DOWNLOAD A APP WELL BLUESTACKS HOW DID I DOWNLOAD YOUR APP IF I DONT HAVE NET ACCESS!.

Great but BlueStacks has been full of bugs since it's time began and I'm sure will be no different now.

run android apps on an android system, pure and simple.

Fatal error in apps downloader properties detected!

that's assuming you believe there is anything wrong with Windows 8 in the first place - it's not broken, just different!

Android apps don't even work very well on Android.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I still develop for Windows and Ubuntu Desktop editions. If I had an Android device or even the specs for my phone's API I would probably move to that, though, because more instant gratification.

Use Android to run Android apps. Duh!

Wonder if that would work on chrome book?

I was under the impression that Chromebook / ChromeOS used a permissions-extended implementation of Chromium as the OS itself... like Internet Explorer is part of Windows, only taken to its logical extremum. (Come on fhwhqgads.)

How to fix windows 8? Don't make it in the first place.

Alternate solution: skip windows 8 altogether and just use android as your mobile OS. Much easier, and less likely to cause you headaches. :-)

+Jason Parsons that's all well and good, but what do you use to develop your android apps? The desktop is far from irrelevant, because it's still the platform of choice for doing serious work, especially programming, most of the time.

Laptop and netbooks are contenders in the serious development category - much easier to bust out your netbook in a coffee shop and just start coding. That is, of course, as long as it's not a thin client... ;P

+Damon Douglas Windows 8 does not need to be fixed. It needs to be used on proper hardware. If you've got a desktop keep using Win7, but if you're lucky enough to have something with a touch screen Win 8 is simply magic.

Currently working with a Dell Latitude XT3 (Tablet/Laptop) with Win8 Pro. This a match made in heaven! I wouldnt ever think going back!

It's the response to
windows 8=crap
&
Linux = crap

Android is no longer linux... But it should be...

None of the distro's are as user... Um... Usable?

One behalf of bluestacks -> dont blame me i am still in beta !

If any one root the bluedtack...one will see a Google play store app....what is Google waiting for to sue this company?

I couldn't imagine a better suggestion.

+Thor King you could always just put on your big boy pants and get on with it! at the end of the day it is still faster than Win7, uses less memory, starts quicker and has more installed desktop users than Linux or OSX!

+Ron Ellenbecker YOU ARE RIGHT.... WHY DOESN'T EVERYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS???.... +++ classic shell!!!
