Dallas

Please keep my city and its people in your thoughts, and take all the actions you can to make sure no more innocent people have to die for the sins of bad actors. If we keep finding excuses for and hiding their misdeeds and systemic corruption, then more people will end up sacrificial lambs for their slaughter.

Been trying to get into this community for a good month or two now... Hopefully someone will respond to my request; I really want to learn from other UX developers.

COMMUNITY CONTENT VOTE - PLAYTHROUGH VIDEOS

Hello!

I'm making this poll to gauge community interest in the playthrough videos that get posted here. Do you like having the playthroughs here? Do you want to see more or less of them? Please let me know. Sorry that we haven't been able to update as much lately; I'm trying to add moderators slowly.

I find the tendency of some artists to make self-deprecating statements on their artwork in an attempt to fish for compliments ingratiating.

This Article Summarizes Why I Don't Care for the Internet of Things

I went to a really neat workshop last night hosted at the AT&T Foundry about the Internet of Things and watched the people who make our things report their data. Although it wasn't much for me (I'm a front end developer -- give me all that data once you get it and I'll visualize it and help to improve people's lives with great interfaces!), it was very cool to see what our technology is capable of.

At the same time, it reminded me of an article similar to this one that I read about why the internet of things will essentially just increase the rate of obsolescence of technology/goods. A refrigerator can last up to 14 years, but imagine combining your fridge with your smart phone -- a smart phone which you probably replace every two years or so. From the article:

"We’ve worried in the past about how embedded electronics open up your teddy bears and cars to copyright restrictions, as well as about how they can shorten the lifespan of devices. For refrigerators, a shorter lifespan is a particularly big deal—appliances actually make up about 60% of global e-waste."

The Internet of Things could be useful in enhancing our lives if it were combined with the essentials of life, like maintenance, in non-flashy, stable ways, but most development I've seen around it has been focused on making new stuff instead of improving existing processes.

I have more to say, but I want to hear what you think. What is your opinion on the Internet of Things?

Really excited to read this new article I stumbled across. I strongly believe that we need to work more on maintenance than innovating or coming up with new things. So many people seem to be so intensely focused with coming up with the next new thing to maximize their dollars when they don't realize that maintaining what we have is critical.

If you're looking for VNs to support, check out this search on Kickstarter. :) The artists and writers and programmers that put together these games for us to enjoy and experience really could use your help! :) Show some love.

I just backed this game on Kickstarter. There are actually quite a VNs on Kickstarter right now! We should probably spend more time backing them, especially the English language ones, to show that there is a viable market and supportive community and a demand for this style of games. :) We can't all play Call of Duty. ;)
