More loss of life in #BatonRouge, a city just a few hours from our offices and a community already reeling from the death of #AltonSterling. We’re disheartened, but more determined than ever to help our country heal. Baton Rouge, we hold you in our thoughts. RIP Montrell L. Jackson, Brad Garafola and Matthew Gerald.

Congratulations to Carla Hayden on becoming our new Librarian of Congress! She is the first woman and the first African-American to hold the position.
The longtime head of Baltimore's library system was nominated by President Barack Obama to be the next Librarian of Congress on Wednesday, a rare pick for a position that has routinely been held by scholars in other fields.

We're completely in love with this social justice lesson that combined examining diversity in picture books, math and student activism.
By Jeremy Manger As part of our larger social justice project, my third grade students at High Tech Elementary North County in San Marcos, California completed an investigation into the diversity of our classroom library. If you teach in Texas, you need to read this.
A Mexican-American history textbook harshly criticized by scholars and activists is on a list of proposed books for use in Texas public schools.

Consider making Perspectives for a Diverse America part of your summer planning. It makes integrating social justice content a breeze.
Build Literacy-based, Anti-bias Learning Plans. Teaching Tolerance's Perspectives for a Diverse America is a literacy-based curriculum that marries anti-bias social justice content with the rigor of the Common Core State Standards.
