On location in the orchard using a the few props available and a bright white wall to reflect some of the bright yellow sunshine. A blue flower pot as a background! Rustic but with a bit of effort not too bad given the rudimentary outdoor studio in the orange grove. Trying to show the simplicity of fresh orange juice - tree to glass. Perhaps more treenext time...

Spain, Malaga Province...and just when we thought the day was over, this shaft of red sunlight shot through a gap in the clouds and was then gone in 30 seconds...
A last ray of sunshine lighting up Sierra de Riogordo y Periana! Puesta de sol de invierno magnífico! Winter sun ☺

A dull day in a Spanish kitchen suggests external flash required. Here the flash is bounced off the white refrigerator. A white light allows the stunning colour of the fruit to shine through. Speedlite 430 Ex II.

Weekend work, collecting Quinces (membrillos) to make traditional Spanish "dulce de membrillo" or "Quince cheese". Either way it is similar to jam that can stand alone in a block and is then sliced to eat with cheese, on toast or in pastries. I can eat it by the spoonful! There are 100 other uses for it in the kitchen. Supremely delicious, aromatic and together with the sweet, floral scent of the Quince fruit the casa is smelling good :-)

Previously Europe's most dangerous walk... El Caminito del Rey, Malaga, Spain, recently refurbished it is now a safe but vertiginous walk along cliffs, suspended 100m above the river bed in places. Spectacular scenery and mother nature at her geological best! Built in 1901 - 05 to ferry workers between dam wall construction sites. Spectaucular!

Delving into the Spanish harvests and resulting produce: - this "dulce de membrillo", or Quince cheese among other descriptions - is a staple in Spain and eaten with, cheese, cured meat, cooked in pastries etc. Quince, cinnamon and sugar...the Ancient Romans made it with honey.

Photographically I have included the two most flavoursome ingredients and have omitted the sugar. It didn't add much to the image and detracted from the richness of the yellow fruit and rust-red membrillo paste. A grey rainy day meant I had to use some external flash.

7 months in Africa - with Tentco tent, Nissan twin-cab, and Canon cameras. An amazing continent, with soooo much to see and experience, it really could take a lifetime to see the lot - especially as it is an ever-changing, dynamic place in so many ways...

The vastness of Namibia is awe-inspiring - the space and the wide, wide horizons are glorious. The aridity in places seems to prohibit the very existence of wildlife....but it doesn't and the natural world in Namibia is a tremendous resource to explore.

The pans and plains of Etosha are presented here with images from the Caprivi strip - the region of 4 rivers (Okavango, Kwando, Chobe and Zambezi) as a contrast to the heat and aridity of Etosha. The vegetation, green grass and sheer variety of gorgeous trees, together with the wildlife, make the Caprivi Region very rewarding too.
