I've just learned that BL86's moon was actually discovered in earlier light curve data from two individual observers - Joseph Pollock of Appalachian State University and Petr Prave of Poland's Ondrejov Observatory - and that the Goldstone radar data simply confirmed it. The NASA article errs in not making that point.
