Gothic cyborg. Model meowist. Attractive nuisance.
Introduction
Gothic cyborg. Plays the guitar, the piano, and the fool. Can change a tire and strip a gun, but prefers to dine with her friends. Dances with pom-pons. Has bruises from martial arts, and a kinship with computers and cats.

You can say what you like in your own postings; commenting on mine, baseline politeness and an absence of racism, sexism, etc. — religion doesn't seem to be an immutable attribute in the same way — go a long way towards not getting you blocked and/or your comments deleted.

G+ is not my primary site, and I am hopelessly behind on looking at who circled me. I'm probably missing a few really interesting people that way.

At this point, I almost kinda want Trump to win.

The fact that he's gotten this far speaks for a wave of stupid so potent and majestic that it'd almost be a crime against nature to not let it happen.  At least, I hope that one of his staffer would have the wherewithal to replace the nuclear button with one of these:

I'll admit it: Until now, I've never particularly liked Sea Cucumbers.  Sure, they play an important ecological role as vacuum cleaners of the sea floor, but typically they look like so many discarded pickles, or worse, at the water's bottom.

But then I encountered the amazing California Sea Cucumber (Parastichopus californicus).  Large, orange, and very spikey, with many tube-feet for mobility, this is one impressive creature.

Also pictured, in the left foreground, is the oval-shaped, 8 segment, pink Lined Chiton (Tonicella lokii).  The chiton is adjacent to a small patch of crustose coralline red algae, which it eats and from which derives its color.  According to A Living Bay: The Underwater World of Monterey Bay by Lovell and Libby Langstroth, Tonicella have a rasping tongue made of the iron-based mineral magnetite. This makes their tongue, or radula, much harder than the calcium carbonate in the coralline algae that they grind against.   The authors also suggest that the magnetite may serve as a navigational aid.

Photo taken June 15, 2014 while diving at the Aquarium Anchor site of Monterey Bay in California at a depth of roughly 50 ft (~15 m).

Lord of the Rings would have been much simpler with time travel — imagine Gandalf, upon learning about Sméagol and the ring, hopping into his deLothlórien and setting things right in chapter one!

The Southern Sea Otter (Enhydra lutris nereis) (sometime called the California Sea Otter) spends nearly its entire life in the water.  Rather than having blubber to keep warm, they rely on heat generated by a high metabolism (eating nearly 25% of their weight in food each day) and a very thick, 2 layer coat of fur.  In fact, they have the thickest fur of all mammals, measuring as high as 650,000 hairs per square inch in the densest spots.

In the 1700s and 1800s, they were nearly hunted to extinction for their fur.  Today they are listed as "Threatened" by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, but are making a comeback in California from a small colony of 50 animals in 1938 to over 2000 today.

This Southern Sea Otter was spotted on the surface before diving at the Aquarium Anchor dive site of Monterey Bay in California on March 30, 2014.  Using its teeth, the otter has grabbed onto some leaves of kelp that float on the surface, using the kelp plant as an anchor. The kelp plant extends all the way to the water's bottom, which is approximately 50 feet (~15 m) at this spot in the bay.

For more information about the Southern Sea Otter, read the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Webpage: http://www.fws.gov/ventura/species_information/so_sea_otter/index.html

Thin White Duke

Latin Quarter on Bowie, back in the '80s.
Super awesome band that's still around and that never got it well-deserved props. Catch them on tour if the new quieter, singer/songwriter folky thing could be for you, or, you know, if you think there aren't enough leftwing/progressive bands, and you want to support the ones we have.

I'm not sure these qualify.
It's awesome when people are talented enough to turn one piece of art, into another, and another. That being said, here's the coolest thing you'll ever see.
