FREE GIFT: how to identify your ideal reader (and the #1 mistake to avoid)

You know how everyone always tells you to identify your ideal reader for your opt-in / newsletter / webpage / whatever ? And then they tell you the kind of questions you need to ask that reader (e.g "What do they most struggle with?" or "What would they ask for if they could wave a magic wand and have ANYTHING?")

Well, those questions are good... but only if you're asking them to the right people.

So before you start asking them, you need to ensure you know who to get the answers from. (Otherwise, you just end up attracting a whole bunch of other people who ALSO aren't your ideal readers: a major recipe for frustration)

Here's a free - no opt-in required - worksheet I created for my New Year, New Opt-in workshop peeps to help them figure out WHO, exactly, they should be asking those questions to.

It's focussed on readers for your next (or current) opt-in - but there's no reason you can't adapt it to whatever content or copy you're currently writing and use it for that :-)

New on the blog: Why I'm now saying a blanket "NO" to writing copy that talks about weight loss.

OK, this may be the most raw and vulnerable post I've ever published on my business blog (certainly it's the most raw and vulnerable I've done in a long time).

Here's the thing: I've been seeing SO MANY offers in the heart-based business space I hang out in over the past week that have focussed on losing weight in the new year.

It's something I expect and am resigned to in the wider world, but I'd thought the communities I hung out in were safe from it.

And as I sat with my reactions, I realised there was a blog post in me that needed to be written. So... here it is:

OK, honesty time: is your current opt-in gift in DIRE need of updating (or possibly replacing altogether) for the new year?
