This patient was suffering from Peripheral Artery Disease in his leg. He had blockage in his femoral artery that was causing him so much pain that he could not even walk one block.

Thanks to the advancements in endovascular surgery technology, vascular surgeon Dr. Kerr was able to open up the blocked femoral artery without having to make any incisions.

Using an intra-arterial atherectomy device, angioplasty, combined with intravascular ultrasound, Dr. Kerr was able to remove the plaque build-up that was causing the arterial blockage...restoring healthy blood flow through the artery.

This peripheral arterial disease treatment was performed in under one hour and was provided on an outpatient basis at The Vein and Vascular Institute's endovascular suite.

After this non-invasive endovascular surgery the patient will be able to return to his daily routine within days and will be able to enjoy walking without pain again.

AV Fistula Surgery for Dialysis performed at The Vein and Vascular Institute of Tampa Bay makes future dialysis treatments easier, safer, and more efficient.

Patients who have had a kidney transplant or are suffering from kidney failure will have to get dialysis treatment on a regular basis.

During the process of dialysis, blood flows out of the patient's body through a tube and into a dialysis machine where it is “cleaned” then returned to the patient's body through another tube.

The access points of these two tubes are called access portals and they are usually in the forearm. These dialysis access portals must be established by a vascular surgeon.

At The Vein and Vascular Institute of Tampa Bay our vascular surgeons have extensive experience creating dialysis access portals for patients who need dialysis treatment on a regular basis.

The AV Fistula for dialysis surgery is performed on an outpatient basis so patients do not have to stay in the hospital overnight.

The iliac veins in the pelvic region are too deep to be effectively imaged using doppler ultrasound, CT scan or venography.

Due to the lack of sensitivity of CT scans and venography to capture imagery of the iliac veins, discovering May-Thurner Syndrome can be a challenge for many vascular surgeons. As a result, 30-50% of May-Thurner Syndrome diagnoses are inaccurate.

To more accurately diagnose and more precisely treat May-Thurner Syndrome, our Board-Certified Vascular Surgeons use IVUS Intravascular Ultrasound.

IVUS Ultrasound helps our vascular surgeons discover the exact location of iliac vein compression (May-Thurner Syndrome) for 100% accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Leg Pain? It Could Be PAD.

Many people think that leg pain is a sign of aging or arthritis, but what they need to know is that their leg pain could be a sign of a blocked artery in their leg (Peripheral Arterial Disease or PAD).

The most common symptom of PAD is pain in the lower leg, especially in the calf muscles.

If you are experiencing leg pain while walking, climbing stairs or exercising...and you think it is simply related to age, think again...it could be Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD).

A quick and simple vascular ultrasound at The Vein and Vascular Institute of Tampa Bay can help our vascular surgeons discover if your leg pain is caused by Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD).
