Just a Quote I like: "Monotheistic religions in the West have tended to conflate having a general orientation in life, having a specific theory of the world, having a sense of the positive meaningfulness of one’s existence, and having a fixed set of rules for behavior, but these elements are in principle separable." ~Raymond Geuss

Earlier today I started reading "Letters of Note" by +Shaun Usher  and came across this sweet illustrated letter to a young fan, from Monsters Inc Director Pete Docter.

The Letters book overall is a bit addictive with really cool images of original letters from all types of people, like Gandhi and Amelia Earhart. The letters are set up with a backstory and in some cases additional photos or artwork. And I can't lie, I likely got hooked because I started at the end of the book with the Slaughterhouse-Five letter from Kurt Vonnegut to his family. Vonnegut was letting them know he was alive and he described ordeals that he was lucky to have survived as a Prisoner of War.

One of my dearest friends gave me this book as a gift for the holidays and I haven't asked yet which letters she thought I would like the best, but she does know that I have a special place in my heart for Pixar!

Years ago I was invited to Pixar's headquarters and was admittedly a bit spoiled during my visit. I was shown some in-progress Finding Nemo storyboards, received a Monsters Inc DVD gift and was lucky enough to be visiting during their International Air Show where employees aimed for awards by launching model and paper airplanes from an atrium bridge. Some even went for the loss by launching things like a crash test dummy airplane that, as expected, dropped straight down with no distance gain. For those interested in the air show, there's an easter egg for the first annual Air Show on the Monsters Inc DVD.

And for those interested in the Letters of Note, you can check out the author's blog:  http://www.lettersofnote.com/2010/06/pixar-films-dont-get-finished-they-just.html

Joke: A guy walks into a bar.

...see, the bar is actually a long rigid piece of metal, and not a pub.

Time for another tribute to California harvest. Grow lemons --> make Lemon Bars! Though I wish I had not forayed into making one of my favorite desserts ever.

Here is a photo I took last month on a rainy day at the Marin County Civic Center. I totally love this place. It's such a great example of Frank Lloyd Wright design in harmony with it's natural surroundings and I notice something new about the design every time I visit.

I also love taking out of town visitors here because it's a unique attraction, not far from San Francisco or from Muir Woods and it's a national, and state, designated historic landmark.

Here is my 'must see' list for the Hall of Justice Building:
– art gallery and civic center site model on the first floor
– the patio, fountain and spire accessible via the cafe on 2nd
– the outdoor garden at the end of the 4th floor with a pathway up to get a cool view of the roofline
– library at the opposite end on 4th floor (located under an 80ft dome)

They also provide guided tours but I've never taken one. Drop me a line if you discover any other cool nooks and crannies!

Quite possibly my favorite place on earth.

A green algae named Trentapohlia causes the orange moss like growth on the trees in this part of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. Next to the bluest waters it makes for amazing color contrast. Great for photos and even better in person!

My eyes are extremely sensitive to light so I've always dreaded dilation during eye exams. Switching to an Optometrist that uses retinal scan technology has made my annual eye exams virtually innocuous. That, and the photos are pretty cooI too.
