Today feels like the last day of summer vacation. The last two weeks of holidays has been a lovely interlude and tomorrow it's back to business.

My family worked on this 1000-piece puzzle off and on for a week. It was a great way to come together in random moments and let the magic of relationships go to work in its undercover way.

Happy 2015,  friends.

Just printed 268 pages of #MinorKing by +Jim Mitchem for final edits. I always print for the final edit. I catch things that I've missed on the screen.

Folks, this novel will be out in a few weeks and it ROCKS. When you pull out of his world, yours will be forever changed.

Read Jim's posts to get to know him; all available here and on obsessedwithconformity.com

Pesticides in your body? Ughghgh. You can make a big difference in the levels of pesticides in your body by eating non-GMO organically grown foods. A new study published in Environmental Health Perspectives confirms that eating organic lowers your exposure to toxic pesticides, which also means no GMOs! Almost all the GMO seeds sold to growers for corn, soybeans, and other big commodity crops have been genetically modified to survive repeated applications of Roundup® herbicide and other weedkillers.

In this high energy TEDx talk, Alan reveals the sophisticated methods used by the food industry “fibberati” to manipulate, deceive and distract us. If you have ever read a food label and felt you were being lied to, you have felt the “dark mark” of the fibberati. We can resist these nefarious tactics by making conscious food choices based on core values that support a sustainable and just food system.

Alan directs Government Affairs and Food and Agriculture Policy for Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage, a 60-year-old health food chain operating over 85 stores in fifteen states. He is active in many trade organizations and sits on the Boulder County Food and Agriculture Policy Council. His focus is on communicating with local and federal policy makers using frameworks that are non-confrontational and inclusive -- except for tonight. He has lived for extended periods in Portugal, Haiti, and Dominica, where he developed a keen appreciation for the variables of agriculture production and food systems within different geographic, cultural and economic contexts.

If you’re struggling with what to buy for “someone who has everything,” the answer is probably, “don’t buy them anything.”

Knitting shops that can be so intimidating...particularly for the new/aspiring knitter. Sara and her staff could not be more accommodating and patient, I assure you. Be sure to drop in for Tuesday Night Knitting -- whoever shows up will have a project to show off and Sara always makes sure an experienced knitter is on hand to help us out of our "binds." Someone usually brings a snack and everyone has plenty to talk about. It's a free "girls' night out" for me. I always feel "at home" when I'm at the Cottage.
