Not sure I agree with the logic here. I would venture to say that most people don't pay a premium for hybrid and all-electric vehicles just to reduce their carbon footprint or lessen dependency on oil. People buy them because they do those things and also provide other tangible benefits (like not having to visit a smelly gas station every week and getting access to the HOV lanes). In some cases, people buy them only to get access to the HOV lane.
