Introduction
I'm Tabita Green, the author of Her Lost Year: A Story of Hope and a Vision for Optimizing Children's Mental Health.

I blog on the intersection of simple living, health, and social change. I'm also working in my hometown, Decorah, Iowa, to create a resilient, sustainable community.

To make use of my college education, I also manage the web content team at Luther College, an amazing liberal arts school in the Northeast corner of Iowa (where my husband, Todd, also happens to teach).

Today Is a New Day

What is, will be.
As Todd and I settled in for an evening of takeout pizza and watching CNN in bed last night, we were feeling pretty good. When our 19-year-old started texting us at 8:50 p.m.—”Florida 🙁 :(“—we were still confident that Hillary Clinton would win (we trusted the polls, how foolish). But as the night went on, …

Surviving the Election: 7 Coping Strategies

You're welcome.
I won’t lie. The 2016 US presidential election has taken an emotional toll on me. As you know, I was an all-in Bernie supporter and delegate to the county and state conventions in Iowa. His loss was disappointing, especially considering the early dismissal by the media and the shenanigans of the Democratic National Committee. We …

For the Beauty of the Earth

There is a whole lot of beauty amidst the chaos of this world.

Maybe you don't have to stick with everything all the time. What do you think?
Life isn't predictable. It isn't neat and tidy. No, it's messy and imperfect, and all you can do is take it as it comes and adapt.

Trump's New Website Is a Disaster

I thought I'd seen it all...
Just when I thought things couldn’t get much worse (I mean Bannon as chief strategist, what…?), I had the misfortune to learn about Trump’s new website, greatagain.gov. Being the website geek that I am, I clicked to check it out. What followed was a web content nightmare of the worst sort. Anti-Tight Writing My first …

The Dilemma

Read my reflections on the dilemma of balancing slow living with social change. (Spoiler alert: I don't know the answer.)
When you've discovered the solution to a huge problem, but it's so big and so hard that it will take everything you have to make change happen...

Brenda is a gentle and skilled healer. I always feel better after an hour (or more!) of acupuncture and massage. Highly recommended!
