Dear Google News team and Google Webmaster Tools team,
When will we be able to "parse a web page as Google News bot"? It could be useful to check if Googlebot can get the right title of the article, its body, its publication date, its main picture and so on.
Current error messages in GWT are not clear enough for news websites.
PS : I know you have an internal tool for that, please put it online!

The Visual Microphone: Passive Recovery of Sound from Video

Researchers at MIT CSAIL, Microsoft and Adobe have developed a method of recovering sound by measuring the vibration of objects in a video. Using complex steerable filters (http://goo.gl/eHHQkn) and taking advantage of the artifacts of rolling shutter (http://goo.gl/1KdBks) common in handheld cameras, their method can detect minute vibrations, on the order of ~0.01 pixel, even in videos with frame rates several times less than the frequencies of the audio.

This work will be presented next week at the 41st International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques (SIGGRAPH 2014, http://goo.gl/xKCUKQ). For more details, including some light background reading, visit the team page at http://goo.gl/jzHjQU

On the Chrome team, we’ve been curious about the adoption of HTML5. We recently started measuring the usage of certain features in Google’s search index. Today, we’re excited to share a trend chart for element tag names:

http://googlechrome.github.com/webplatform-metrics

Keep in mind that these numbers are only an approximation for the web as a whole because our crawler doesn’t index everything (for example, pages behind user login forms). Even so, the charts clearly demonstrate strong adoption trends for certain parts of HTML5:

* <header> and <footer> tags are now on 7%+ of the web.
* Usage of <nav>, <aside>, <section>, <article>, and <time> is steadily increasing too.

In the future, we hope to regularly share metrics on additional HTML5 features, so stay tuned!
Web Platform Feature Metrics. Trend lines show the percentage of web pages that use a particular web platform feature at least once. More soon!
