TNM PLC Hands Over School Projects valued at Mk31 Million in Mwanza

MWANZA, December 2nd, 2017— Learners and teachers in Mwanza district where all smiles on Saturday, as Malawi’s integrated mobile network and ICT service provider TNM PLC presented a classroom block, a child care centre and feeding shelter collectively worth MK31 million to the community.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, TNM PLC acting Chief Executive Officer Eric Valentine said this is in line with TNM PLC’s commitment to develop Malawian communities through meaningful Corporate Social Investment.

The projects encompass a childcare centre worth MK12 million at Tsegulani Community Based Child Care Centre (CBCC) at Tsegulani village, a MK14million classroom block consisting of two classrooms and a head teacher’s officer at Nthomba Primary School in Lipenga village and a children’s feeding shelter worth MK5 million at Kunenekude village TA Kanduku, Mwanza.

In his speech Valentine said, “As a truly Malawian company, TNM PLC is working to enrich the lives of Malawian Citizens through the provision of platforms that will enable them to actualize their goals and dreams”

He added that the company values education as it provides the key through which the youth can unlock their full potential and achieve their dreams.

TNM was touched by the deplorable state of make-shift shelters used by pupils at Nthomba Primary School and Tsegulani CBCC and decided to improve the situation. Through this donation TNM reaffirmed its commitment to assist government in the provision of quality education especially through the provision of enabling infrastructure.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Mwanza District Education Manager Gertrude Chipeta commended TNM Plc for the initiative, which she said would significantly improve learning conditions for pupils.

“Previously, learners dreaded the rainy season as it meant inconsistent learning due to the deplorable state of the makeshift shelter that was used. This is definitely a timely donation,” said Chipeta.

Also speaking during the event, Minister of Information, Hon. Nicholas Dausi, who grew up in Mwanza thanked TNM for the donation and its support towards Government’s development agenda.
