+John Buckley yes, in trauma reactions, people's startle response can become overactive, causing them fright even when the environment is safe, as in ptsd. But in this example, the monk shares a study in which other monks are placed in a quiet room and are unflinched at a loud sudden boom. Either way I think the point is that we a aren't all supposed to be striving for monk-like tranquility....

Malheureusement cet instrument de grande valeur qui est à la portée de nous
tous, est souvent délaissé au profit d'autres de valeurs très médiocres
auxquels nous semblons accorder beaucoup plus d'importance et c'est
vraiment dommage pour tout le perdu. Il urge de revenir sur le bon chemin!

Seven years ago, he was so close!  He mentioned the methane of cattle.  He mentioned the unnatural feed of the salmon.  He just couldn't put the two together:  Feed cattle en masse an unnatural diet (because it makes them fat in order to fetch a higher price) and-- BOOM-- gassy cattle and environmental change!  *Stop feeding cattle grain feed and you'll cut their methane.*  Meat is not the enemy.  It is what we are feeding our meat that is the problem.  If meat consumption is making us unhealthy, it is because we are also eating what they have eaten.
