Another Lighting Question:

Is there really anything special about fish lights?  Any reason I can't just go to my local home store and buy some under counter LED light strips for my tank?  Plus maybe a grow light from the local green house to keep the plants happy?  I'm not concerned about water/moisture, the top of my tank is pretty well sealed off and the lights will be a few inches above the hood anyway.

I need to upgrade the lighting in my new 55 gallon but it seems most fish lights are very over priced compared to 'regular' home lighting.

Anyone else done something like this?  How were the results?

Just sharing my new tank.  I combined two 29 gallons into the one new 55 gallon acrylic tank I just got on Craigslist.  It's been up since Friday and so far everything is working well.  One casualty of the move was my lone amano shrimp; he must have gotten stuck on my arm or something, I found him dead the next day by my sink.  Very strange.

Anyway, enjoy.  It needs a lighting upgrade/tweak and then probably some CO2 but I'm going to let it all settle in for a while before I make too many changes.

I had a celebrity sighting  on Easter Sunday.  In the middle of South Dakota, I came upon Maddie the Coonhound.  Much thanks to Mr. Humphrey for calling up Maddie from the back seat to pose for a picture while we cruised down the interstate.  It didn't turn out the best but it was still neat.

If you don't know Maddie, check out www.maddieonthings.com

Love the pics and the Landcruiser, keep up the good work!  I hope to see some SD pics at some point.

I'm looking at adding a CO2 system to my 29 gallon planted freshwater tank.  So far, the tank is doing fine, I'm just looking at enhancing my plant growth a bit.  I'm specifically looking for CO2 solutions that use bottled CO2, not anything I have to mix yeast or anything like that.

Can anyone recommend a specific product and perhaps where to buy it?  Money is definitely a factor here.

Thanks!

First, glad to find time to post here again, its been a while although I do try and keep up on reading the posts.

Anyone have any good tips on getting small plants rooted?  I'm trying some micro swords and some sort of grass again in my freshwater 29 gallon.  Big plants I have no problem with, but anything with such fine roots gets uprooted by the fish.  I have gravel and flouromax as substrate.

My tank from today.  Not many changes lately but I did add 3 cherry shrimp today.  Also found 1 feeder snail that is still around from a week or two ago.
