I received a question today through the Indianapolis Java User Group (indyjug.net) on how to prepare for the Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 8 Programmer exam. I thought the answer might be of interest to others as well.

How you approach this (or any) certification will depend upon your learning style.

Perhaps you only need a quick overview of what's new:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/8-whats-new-2157071.html
https://www.techempower.com/blog/2013/03/26/everything-about-java-8/

You could read a book on Java 8:
http://www.amazon.com/OCA-Certified-Associate-Programmer-1Z0-808/dp/1118957407
http://www.amazon.com/Java-Action-Lambdas-functional-style-programming/dp/1617291994

It might be helpful to follow a more in-depth tutorial:
http://www.tutorialspoint.com/java8/
http://www.coreservlets.com/java-8-tutorial/
http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/java/index.html

Or you could take a course:
•Udemy - https://www.udemy.com/java-essential-training-with-java-8/
•Oracle Java SE 8 Fundamentals -
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=609&get_params=dc:D83527

Another option is to run through the practice exam so you know where to focus:
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=609&get_params=dc:D77103,p_preview:N

Whatever path you choose, good luck on the certification exam!

Hi! I'd like to announce Vim-CtrlSpace has a new major version: 5 :). All the code has been rewritten from scratch. Fuzzy search got a new engine in Go. Finally, the documentation is a lot better now (hopefully) and won't scare you with thousands of key reference tables ;) Give it a try and enjoy! :)
