Our minds are fascinating.  We can induce meditative states almost at will, sometimes.  Using things like isochronic tones and binaural beats, we can simulate certain states and brainwave entertainment.  It doesn’t replace meditation, but it’s still pretty cool… right…

18 Reasons Why You Should Do Yoga

lose weight by doing yoga
Yoga is an ancient practice with origins stretching back thousands of years in India. It is designed to help achieve a more positive outlook on life and a focused, permanent sense of serenity and peace.
Yoga is currently well-known for encouraging relaxation and improving flexibility, but more and more studies show that the practice offers benefits that go beyond the obvious. Besides easing back pain, yoga can provide help for people suffering from a myriad of other medical conditions.

No matter your age, your physical capabilities, your current weight or your fitness goals, you should be doing yoga. Whether you’re taking one yoga class a week, spending five minutes mindfully stretching each morning, or doing something more, your body and mind will thank you.

1. Better Sleep
With an increasing percentage of the population suffering from varying degrees of insomnia, this benefit of yoga is an often overlooked feature. Doing yoga few times a week helps to calm the nervous system and improve rest.

2. Helps fight food cravings
Keeping off weight can be a bit easier with a regular yoga routine. In a study of 15,000 average-weight adults, people gained 3 fewer pounds annually over the course of 4 years if they followed a routine of half hour of yoga per week. The weight loss might be a result of a closer relationship between body and mind during yoga, helping participants to reduce overeating. Craving generally strikes when your body is tense. with a relaxing session of yoga makes it easier to consider whether or not you really need that extra candy bar.

3. Improves posture
Because of the fact that yoga strengthens your core, you will soon notice that your posture is improved as you practice it for a few weeks. You will walk with confidence, head held high, shoulder back and tummy in. Good posture is not only healthy, it also help you to stand taller and look more attractive.

4. Relieves stress
One of the well known benefits of yoga is that, if you practice yoga regularly, your stress levels are reduced. It is a part of the routine that asks you to clear your mind and focus on your breathing and body. As a result, your stress reactions will diminish, even after finishing your class.

5. Helps to lose weight
Yoga can help you lose weight and keep it off, too if combined with a healthy diet and as part of a regular exercise program. It is not any wonder why so many workout and weight loss DVDs include a yoga segment?

6. Boosts performance in the bedroom
Spice up your love with yoga poses that focus on body alignment, increase sexual desire and blood flow. Several yoga poses send blood flow directly to the pelvic region, intensifying desire and sensitivity. Moves that require balance and abdominal contraction can strengthen your core because of the focus on pelvic muscles. Whole body awareness, vital to yoga, also boosts self- confidence and makes you more assertive.

7. Increases muscle tone

In addition to getting and maintaining a healthy weight, yoga can also help you build lean muscle, tone and define existing muscle. This does not mean you will be over huge and buff. You will have a sexy and gorgeous silhouette.

8. Sharpens mental health
Regular practice of yoga has been suggested to help with concentration and memory and even, in recent researches, it has been proven to help prevent and treat diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Is not it marvelous?

9. Low impact
Yoga needs a low impact to exercise that is why it is great for you if you have joint trouble. But it still is strenuous. So if you are not sure if you can handle it, ask your doctor first, and of course ease into a beginner’s course.

10. Keeps balance
If you, like some people, suffer from balance problem, either from inner ear issue or something else, yoga can help with this, too. It is time to begin to think there is nothing yoga can’t help with!

11. Pain management
Yoga is a victorious weapon in the battle against chronic pain. And, because it is not a drug and is appropriate for almost anyone, it is something considering for anyone who suffers from long-term joint, muscle, or other pain.

12. Full of energy
Like any other form of workout, regularly doing yoga can provide you with an energy boost in a long term. It definitely is much better than any energy drink wearing you off.

13. Breathing issues

A big part of yoga is the breathing exercises–or the pranayama–which are incorporated into positions and then on their own. The exercises encourage a more focused and centered way of breathing, and while they might not be something you’ll do consciously every day, they’re absolutely sure to provide methods of effective stress-management and generally make you feel much better.
Plus, like someone with asthma, it really helps to open your lungs and explore what it means to breath consciously. Do those pranayamas for a few weeks, and you’ll feel the benefits.

14. Better Mood
A 2010 study found that practicing yoga just three times a week increased levels of chemicals in the brain that help combat anxiety and depression and puts you in a better mood on a daily basis.

15. Better control over medical conditions affected by stress
Researchers earlier this year theorized that yoga may be effective in treating patients with stress-related psychological and medical conditions such as depression, anxiety, high blood pressure and cardiac disease.

16. Better management of rheumatoid arthritis
Patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis reported significant improvements in their quality of life after starting a gentle yoga practice.

17. Meditation can change your life for the better
Meditation is really the key to all things yoga. Even if you can do every kind of complicated pose under the sun, it loses all of its true meaning if it’s not done with focus and thought. Meditation has been shown time and time again to be a beneficial practice that everyone should implement into their daily routine.
Meditation isn’t necessarily sitting with a bowl of incense and working your way through a book of Tibetan chants in a darkened, candlelit room–rather, you can meditate anywhere quiet and at absolutely any time you like. All it takes is five minutes with some alone time and peace and quiet. Meditation improves your quality of life by allowing your mind some time to process everything that goes on in your life. It’s a hugely important and integral part of yoga practice and something that can really change your life, allowing you to embrace calmness and serenity with ease.
18. Protects the heart
Yoga can reduce high blood pressure, bad cholesterol, and stress, all risk factors for heart disease. Performing savasana (corpse pose) is associated with greater improvements in blood pressure compared to simply lying on the couch.

Theory...

"Earth’s Water Is Older Than the Sun." AN #INTERESTING #THEORY BY CARL ENGELKING -- The #sun, at 4.6 billion years old, predates all the other bodies in our #solar #system. But it turns out that much of the #water we swim in and drink here on #Earth is even older. A new model of the #chemistry of the early solar system finds that up to half the water now on Earth was inherited from an abundant supply of #interstellar #ice as our sun formed. That means our solar system’s moisture wasn't the result of local conditions in the proto-planetary disk, but rather a regular feature of #planetary formation — raising hopes that life could indeed exist elsewhere in the #universe
THE #EVOLUTION OF THE EARTH'S WATER ILLUSTRATED BY BILL SAXTON -- Water through time: Ices from the parent molecular cloud are incorporated into planet-forming disks around young stars, and eventually into the planets themselves. NSF/AUI/NRAO

Wulingyuan — like Avatar's Halleluyah Mountains!
Wulingyuan, in Zhangjiajie, is a natural wonder rivaling Bryce Canyon or Monument Valley. The sandstone pinnacles are grouped together tightly like a forest of 200-meter-tall, greenish-white cedars. There is great biodiversity, and when there is a fog or mist, the spires seem to float in the air like in Avatar.
